Is attaining this VIP level possible playing 10NL and 25NL? Also what kind of hours, how many tables would be needed to have a chance at making a decent run at it?

I have been reading up on poker stars VIP program after reading Dusty's article in the current issue of CardPlayer, and if you can reach that status, it has great rewards. Before reading up on this I was partial to FTP.

I've been thinking of getting back into the online game again, and since I'm free Monday - Thursdays with no job during the week, I am hoping this could be possible.

A side note, I've been wanting a PS3 forever and for 140,000 FPP's and Gold Status I can get one, could this be a possible consolartion prize if SuperNovaElite isn't possible?

Matt Lessinger wrote a couple of recent articles for Card Player about the negatives and the positives of going for Supernova Elite.

10NL and 25NL probably won't get you there, even without a life outside of poker, but here's the calculator you can plug your numbers into and find out where you can get with the levels and volume you play: http://www.pokerstars.com/vip/calculator/

Not at 10NL but possibly at 25NL.

If you play 6max then it's ~0.06 FPPs per hand at 10NL and ~0.12 FPPs per hand at 25NL.

A great calc here:

http://www.fpppro.com/

You need to play about 20k table hours at 10NL, so if you 10 table that's 2,000 actual hours or about 5.5 hours a day.

You need to play about 9k table hours at 25NL, so if you 10 table that's 900 actual hours or about 2.5 hours a day.

You need to play about 5.5k table hours at 50NL, so if you 10 table that's 500 actual hours or about 1.5 hours per day.

That's assuming 90 hands per hour :)

What star level are you at the moment?

What stakes do you play? How many tables do you play?

What sort of volume do you average in a month? What is the most hands you've played in a day/week/month before?

At 6-max 25nl you'll have to average 1000 hands/hr for 19.5 hrs per day EVERY DAY for a year!!!

So no it's just not possible at those levels.

Bronze - 0 VPPs

I can handle 4 tables of 10NL and 25NL, but I haven't played any online poker in about a year and a half. Hopefully I'll be moving up from this, that is the goal right?

I honestly have to look at my PT2 (when the upgrade was free) to see how many hands I've even played. But since I don't have a job during the week I figure why not play some poker. I actually just checked my email a little while after posting this to find out I've been approved for rake back at FTP, which leads me to ask what is the average weekly rake back you guys receive?

Since the year is almost over, I may reevaluate my SNE attempt for next year. I just think it's awesome they give you 2 free buyins to major live events, and $10k hits for certain milestones.

Lastly, what is the likelihood if I play this year that I could attain gold level with enough FPPs to get a PS3 (29,000 FPPs)?

Just realised the numbers I gave were for SN, not SNE. You'd have to multiply them by 10 to make SNE - that's literally physically impossible.

I'm not sure what rakeback I receive but it's not 27% - my First Deposit Bonus makes up for that. When it runs out, I'll probably move back to Full Tilt.

IMO you should go for Plantium Star for the rest of the year; that'll be a few hours a day 4 tabling 25NL. Aim at improving your game and look to move up to 50NL by the end of the year. If you're successful at 50NL, go for Supernova next year; you get ~$4k when you hit SN I believe :)

I'm sorry but a PS3 costs, what, $400 or less now? Attempting to play that much poker to score a PS3 sounds a bit odd. If you have the bankroll to survive the swings from playing that much poker, then I don't see $400 being a stretch for you. If you're good enough to put in anywhere near the volume of SN (not to mention SNE) without going broke (or deeply negative to the tune of much more than $400), then you should be able to just play casually and earn enough to cash out and buy a PS3 in a few days/weeks/months. Playing 25NL I've certainly had upswings to the tune of more than $400 in a short period -- that's only 16 BI's. I've also lost that much in a short period too, so you have to account for that variance.

It just sounds like setting a goal of SN or SNE to score a ~$350 game console seems a bit incongruous. You do realize the perks of earning SNE right? We're talking tens of thousands if not well over $100k in perks and bonuses, even with a break-even winrate. A PS3 wouldn't even register as a blip on that radar, LOL.

Yes I did notice the insane amount of money involved, plus the 2 tourny buyins and tv's and other cool shit. I have the money for a PS3 if I want to buy it, but I was trying to earn something.

I think I'll have to build my roll up enough to play 400NL and 600NL to have a decent shot at it, which would be something around $20k - $30k.
