The sound effects on Full Tilt have always grated on me, especially that chirpy raise sound and the chip sliding sounds, like squeaky styrofoam to me. Recently I realized I had been playing for about two hours with the volume down and I was amazed at how much more relaxed and calm I was than usual.
Another option is to change the sounds. This is pretty easy to do, though it's not documented. Simply go to \Program Files\full tilt poker\Wave in Windows Exporer and change out the .wav files as you like, substituting different files for the different effects. The files have names which correspond to their function and you can right-click and play the sounds to hear what they are. There are several sounds that come with Windows that are good substitutes. I prefer the sounds on Bodog Poker, so I just copied some of the .wav files from bodog and renamed them to the appropriate names for FT and viola! a whole new sound experience.
Keep in mind sound effects should be short. A sound effect should probably be no longer than 2 seconds. If you substitute your favorite song in for the raise sound don't blame me when things get pretty confusing.
It's good to back up the old files and the new ones. Updates might reset things. No guarantees, but it worked for me.cguru:
