When i try to set this up on FTP all I am able to do is request a new one. I thought we were able to choose our own?

Nope, it's random. They send you an email with the 3 cards after your request.

I like the extra security but it is just one more thing that can lock me out from being able to play. I play in different locations and if I have this three card PIN at home when I play elsewhere I might not remember what the PIN is.

I still might consider activating this especially after what recently happened with my account.

Just write the cards down and keep them in your wallet.
If somebody sees "As, 4d, 9c" written on a slip of paper in your wallet they won't know what it's for. And if they did, they would still have to crack you password.

You can also keep re-requesting PIN's until you have one easier to memorize. (It's sent to your email, so be sure to delete that message)

It's 3 cards. You'll be able to remember them easily. I mean do you write down your debit card PIN number? If you do forget they ask you security questions and resend you new ones so no big deal really.

No i dont write those down but I chose them and they have meaning to me. To have a random 7d4s2c makes it a little harder. But still worth it in my opinion to ensure my account is safe

My bank stopped letting me choose my PIN years ago. Too many people choosing their (or their spouses) b-days I suppose.

(makes a mental note- kmixer's pin is 7d4s2c)

as said, keep doing it till you get one you like and will remember easilly.
I got mine yesterday after a reccomendation in your 'hacked' thread, (thanks, whoever said it), and after only using it for one day I can now remember it.
And it stops my wife blowing my account when Im at work!
