More and more sites are moving to crazy late registration times, some are 4 hours long. I myself do not like the unreal amount of time they are using. I'm sure with the slump in the poker world, the sites are doing everything they can to avoid overlays. But hello pete, 4 hours? It drives me crazy sometimes after sitting 3 hours in an already slow and tight tournament, and here come 300 players that got eliminated from other tournaments. It seems like it just restarts over and over. I think 20 minutes should be set for all tournaments, but that's my own thoughts which i am sure the majority would disagree with.:banghead:

I agree its annoying, especially when you don't have 5 hours to play, but if that's what it takes to have tournaments with big prize pools then it's an unfortunate consequence. By the time the third hour rolls around people are buying in to have 10-15 bb stacks. That on top of antes forces them to be in push or fold mode and these are the people buying in 7 or 8 times trying to build up a playable stack and contributing a ridiculous amount of money to the prize pool

I do not understand this also. Has been tough trying to get past all those all ins from the late buy ins cause the blinds are so high at that point. Wish they were a little bit shorter but I am getting adjusted. I just try and have all the chips I want at that point in the game and just sit out and fold a bunch until the last 20 min of late registration is over. I don't know, like I said, I feel like I am getting adjusted but sometimes I look at that registration and just wish that the people were not able to get in.

This is also a trend in live tourneys. Some events allow buyins into the second day with as little as 12 to 15 BBs. Just extra juice for the house.

i agree with this. i think the sites are just raking a more people but in all reality of the sites switching to this is actually a benefit. if you are not doing well in the tournament these players could potentially help you by shoving with nothing and you doubling/trippling up from their aggressive action. i dont see much negative in this even though it seems frustrating and they may suck out.. but if you are down that much in chips you most likely wont catch the cash anyways so look at these players signing late as targets.

It's simple. The longer late reg is, the more ppl will play. I don't like those extra long late regs too(I don't mind them in deep big events). Hopefully, more people will realize how disadventageous it is to start a regular structure tourneys with 12BB and sites won't be extending late registration periods any more.

As the number of online players go down, their only choise to get their money back in garantee tournaments is to do it by reentry or late reg

Isn't that a strategy to join a bit late not really when it is 12BB that some regs use to get into tournaments?

I love the long reentry scheme. It adds a whole new dimension to money making because intelligent players who start early and build a stack are then able to make even more because the late late registers (anything after the 6th blind level) sit down short and wind up donating more than they win. I love these players because they are easy prey and make it so good players can build an even bigger stack when odds are in their favor. For example, I raise in MP with suited connectors to 2-1/2 BB and one of these late entries shoves over top with a HUGE range for 6 BB, I'm priced in with minimal risk and if he wins he's just going to give it to me the next time he shoves anyway. Then when he loses, he just goes and re-enters and does it all over again. The long run EV on these tourneys is great for the intelligent grinder and adds a whole new dynamic to building your roll.

The problem of registering too late is the starting stack, it is too low, when people realize aboutthis, they will stop late registering

in agreement with matiusaa, more often than not, the later I register the less likely to stay in very long; the stack is too small to compete.

I think that when a tournament starts that is the end of registering. I hate anyone who enters after a tournament starts. If I was running it there wouldn't be a late registration. If you can't tell time you shouldn't be playing.

I think the fact that alot of people play better when late, we live in a technological world, surrounded by scoial media, and especially when chip counts are more available. Its much easier for a player to calculate their realistic equity in a tournament, and alot of people drive alot further for even smaller tournaments these days, so with weather delays. You need extended registrations

No pros are entering that late, so it's purely fish entering and you don't like it?

The main thing I dislike about this is the extended time it takes to finish the tour.Other than that its ok because the late comers shove with weak hands helping your stack and constantly add to the pot witch is good to cut down on the overlay so the sites dont lose money and discontinue the guaranteed tours.

My rule of thumb: If half the field has the same or less of a stack, I figure I have a fighting chance unless it's a turbo.

I would say 1 hour late registration is perfectly ok. 2+ hours are getting really annoying but I didn´t participate in any MTT with longer than 2 hour late reg on Stars. :)

the super long late reg drives me, yes its a benefit for gtd tournies. but you start playing and 2-3 hours later there are practically the same number of players in the tourny because of the huge late reg window.

I have played a couple of 2hr late reg on ftp, don't know if i would touch the 2hr 45 late reg they have on carbon. I mean just seems to make for a really long tourny to me when you are technically having a small field for the entire tourny.
