The Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas, NV has a quiet little poker room that I did very well in this past week. I had never played at the Sahara before, but the room rates were phenomenal (21 dollars a night) and with March Madness in full swing, and my daughter home from college, we decided to go up and give our luck a spin around the block.

While I was there, I discovered the poker room (what were the odds of that??? LOL) and so I sat down and put up some cash on a small limit game (2-4) and proceded to triple my buy in in nice fashion. It was getting late and the table was very drunk so I cashed out and headed upstairs for a snooze.

I thought that maybe my luck was still in swing, so I went back down the next day, and put up the same amount again. Once again, the basketball lovers were betting big and drinking big, and so I proceded to take down some very nice pots with tight fashioned play, and did it again! ! 60 dollars became 150 pretty quick, and I cashed out and went to a buffet.

All in all it was a good trip. blackjack did me dirty (I should have stayed on the poker tables) but we came out a little ahead, with my daughter being the big winner with a nice hit on a machine the final day. Good trip. I'll see if I can post some pictures in a reply.

Sounds like fun! I am in Vegas now at the Palazzo. I haven't played any poker yet but plan on entering a tournament today.

(gonna move this to poker rooms)

When I first started going to Vegas 24 years ago, we stayed at the Sahara. I started going because my Dad and some uncles were invited on junkets sponsored by the Sahara. They were all baccarat players. They were comped room, food and beverage, and also given tickets to Mike Tyson fights. My Dad was generous enough to take me on all those trips. On one trip, we stayed in a suite, which was old but very spacious and nice. Back then, the Las Vegas Hilton was arguably the best hotel in Vegas.

My, how things have changed. Both the Sahara and LV Hilton are dumps compared to the newer properties like the Bellagio and Venetian. I read awhile back that some young hotshot had bought the Sahara and was going to try to build it back up. Don't know how that's going, since it's been many years since I've been to the Sahara.

I'm glad you had a good trip. You certainly can't argue with a $21 room rate. That was about the going rate 20 years ago. It sucks that the economy is in such bad shape, but good travel deals to Vegas are a silver lining. It's only been a week since my last trip to Vegas, and I'm already itching to go back.

It's good you went to Vegas and had a good time from what I can tell.
$21 dollars a night is definitely a good rate and the fact that you did well at poker helps.
