Does anyone know if it is posible to live in another state and play online in NJ, or a state where online poker is legal.

For example; buy and open internet service in NJ, go home to, say Virginia, and log on to 888 and play.

Of course use a NJ address.

It should be possible.

poker sites usually check IP address from where you are logging on. Now if you were a resident in a state that online poker was OK, and set up your account in that state, I would think you would be able to play when you were on vacation in NJ, but I would check it out first.

before black friday, pokerstars would get you to validate your physical address. you would register your mailing address, then they would mail to your house or p.o. box or whatever a postcard that had a code on it. you would have to enter that code to validate your address.

Not going to work, they check your location based on your IP address. I have heard that even people who live in NV but are very close to the CA state line, such as around Lake Tahoe, have been having problems logging into NV legal poker because they're getting routed through CA at some point.

Thanks for the reply. It was just a thought. I have a sister living in California and was thinking about getting an IP address from that state. However, I imagine, if poker sites became aware, they may hold up your account.

Seems, I need to go back to the drawing board.

Thanks for the reply. Guess this strategy will not work.

I want to make sure that no-one thinks I was advocating for falsifying information. But... I do believe it is OK to play in a place outside of your legal area as long as your residence considers online poker legal

This is incorrect. Currently, no states are able to play for real money at PokerStars. They are trying to work out getting licensed in New Jersey currently, and California has yet to pass any sort of online poker legislation (although two bills have been introduced to the state legislature). Nevada's online poker room of choice is wsop.com.
