ok so i was playing at a 3/6 limit table and it got down to myself and one other player... anyways in the end i flip over 2 pairs and he says damn u got me beat i got one pair and flips his cards over and sits back... as i reach to pull in the chips one of the other players says wait u have a straight... i freeze and pull back and the dealer shrugs and pushes the chips over to him... then some of the players were saying that i should be awarded the pot since he didnt call his cards and the other half was saying that he had the best hand so he wins... who's right in this situation?

He wins as long as he hasn't mucked his cards.

The other guy is an asshat though - he has no business interfering in hands which don't involve him.

Im not completely positive but since he flipped his cards over even if he doesn't notice it the dealer has to award it to the best hand anyways if he mucked it and said his hand out loud and other players noticed it it'd be a different story.

EDIT- Even though the guy who said that is an "asshat" the dealer is still supposed to look at the flipped hands and award it to the best hand.

Honest question: Aren't "flipped" cards considered mucked unless "call" is announced?

That sucks. I think if you're not paying attention enough to know what your outs arere, especially after you hit one, you don't deserve to win the pot. That guy shoulda kept his mouth shut.

only if there can be another person in the hand, or the tourney by-laws say differently.

to the origional post the: sad to say the pot was never yours. the dealer is responsible for calling the hand not the player

Nope. Some players do that to get a read from the other player. It's mucked if it touches the mucked pile.
