Hey gang,

Anyone tried the Power Up Poker yet on pokerstars?

I really like it but could just be the novelty factor, what are your thoughts?

How long has this been around? I never noticed it till I read this thread.

I just did the tutorial. I "disintegrated" the board Ace when I had pocket Kings to win the hand. Then I got "intel" on the next card to be drawn so I could be sure that my flush draw was going to complete.

All in all, just doesn't seem right. Do people actually play this for real money?

I did the tutorial....interesting but I can't imagine playing it for real money or having it catch on.

This mode is only play money, hopefully it stays like that. I played it once for real and there's just too much going on. It's an interesting concept, just not really one to see on a legit poker site

Once played, only when it appeared, no longer played I doubt that many will play pokerstars enough of lotteries.

Power Up is on another level...

One strategy that can destroy the game strategy is to shove all in....
thats what i learn after playing this format....

Its fun to try new things but putting money in this kind of format is something I dont want to do....

This appeared on my stars lobby last night while maintenance was limiting play money games. I played a play money game, killed it and tried to play a $1 game while I had the "strategic edge" of a game's worth of experience - I did not kill it. I now see it's been available for a while.

It's definitely not poker, but there is a weird, card based strategy side of the game that could be interesting IF :

-The screen loaded faster (probably my laptop's fault)
-I had a more complete understanding of the cards (powers) and how to utilize them
-Blind levels weren't so ridiculous
-real money was not involved

Because the powers cost energy to utilize and all players (in my vast experience of 30 hands) seem to have tons of power to burn at all times, I have to conclude that no one at my tables was fully exploiting the possibilities of the powers. The strategy would seem to be to use as many of the powers to your greater advantage and to your opponents' greater disadvantage as possible, requiring the use of your limited energy. This was not done by anyone in the games that I played.

Using powers while running a bluff is like bluffing with a production crew. Other than that, no, this is not poker.

I tried it just once. It doesn't fell like real poker but is kind of fun. I wouldn't play real money on that. I see it more like a recreational game. Although there are already some good players in that type of game and if you don't take it seriously you could lose a lot of money.

I've tried a couple of games and I either get a wizard that can play hi strategy or I outplay the guy only to get totally destroyed by the last card.

I thought I'd find a soft spot but nope same old stuff.

Personally for me, Power Up is a good kind of game with an interesting novelty factor, which you can play for fun and recreation. Perhaps, when this kind of poker will be more mathematically calculated - I will pay attention to it, but as a whole at the moment the earnings in standard poker disciplines are my priority.

I tried it when it was for play money and wasn't really a fan. I guess it would be okay if you are looking for something different and have some money to gamble.

I played it a couple of weeks ago on the Beta version, agree it’s quite fun but not sure if it’s just novelty factor at the moment.

Might give the live cash version a go now.

Ok so just played 1 won 1, only a $1 with a $2.76 win. I do like it tbh, combination of solid normal game strategy and cool power ups. I think if you can get good at it quickly there’s a window to win some money before the casual players catch up with it?
