Pokerstars vs. Full Tilt -- PS feels choppy/laggy/slow?

So I just started up an account at pokerstars, and after having been playing on full tilt poker for the last few months Pokerstars feels very choppy/slow. Is this the case with others? The animations and movements on Full Tilt just feel a lot snappier and more precise. Sometimes I feel like I have to click 4 or 5 times on Pokerstars for my input to get registered (check, fold, call etc.)

I have tried both Pokerstars fast and slow tables -- the "slow" feeling is prevalent with both. Is there anything that can be done to make the pokerstars software feel smoother?

I feel exactly the same way.. I have never been able to concentrate at any other site properly besides fulltilt, it seems very strange how outdated most pokersites feel compared to fulltilt, how much harder is it to put a little more effort into presentation?

Go to options somewhere are you can take the animations off, so things will happen a lot quicker.

I believe that is your computer performance. I play up to 12 tables on stars and experience no chop or lag.

PokerStars very simliar to Fulltilt (although I prefer Fulltilt by a longshot).
The past two days I did experience some weird lag shit on Stars but this has never happened to me before (in past 3yrs.).

Also, on Stars there's a feature (I forget the name of it but support'll help you with it.. or someone on here if they know what I'm referring to)... I HATED it they way you had to 'double-click' on your tables > click it once to select it & then again to do whatever on it (bet, etc.)... F Dat!!! This pissed me off to no end. There's simple solution though (but I forget what it is, lol). Perhaps this is one of the things goin' on for you too? (sounded a bit like it from your description).

What I still don't like about Stars... I hate the f'n note box. I can be writing notes on one player and then WHAM.. it appears in the f'n chatbox on another table. This f'n SUCKS!!! (sometimes even on the table where the player is sitting with me). I dont' want to mouse over, click this, click that all the time.. or check where it's going onto.. then mouse over copy/paste it to the right spot.. & be sure to erase from 'wrong spot'. What a pain in the azz.. cuz I take ALOT of notes! (anyone have a way that can rid me of this crap feature?). {personally I wish there didn't even have chat box on there at all. I actually had a chatban fairly recently & then requested Support to keep my chat banned because it was the only solution to my notes not accidentally appearing in chatbox on tables. (it doesn't work if I just check off 'no player chat' 'no observer chat'.. cuz the chat still gets put out there on the table's chatbox.. only I can't see it but everyone else can, lol). BUT.. they gave me my chat back... even though I told them I didn't want it.. and to please keep it turned off for another 6mos. or til' I figure this crap out.. or until the feature gets changed} < any help appreciated... even if it's the number to a good (but cheap) Shrink.... ie. do they take 'fulltilt'.. errr.. or preferably 'Carbon' transfers?

I noticed that there is a difference between how the laptops and the bigger desktops handle the software, I don't know if this will work for you like it did for me, but when I would use a laptop I would only use the original table theme that stars had by default, it just seemed when I started downloading the newer table themes thats when it started to feel choppy/slow, with a desktop I never had trouble with Pokerstars.

Software doesnt make the big difference for me. I prefer MTT's and PS is best there. Secondly they have good support and no fuss fast cashout. Lastly, HEM made my FT go bonkers and the rescue plan suggested by FT tech support is so out there i simply cant be assed going through it all.

...Also, on Stars there's a feature...

I was having the same double click problem, saw your post so went to find the fix.

In Pokerstars, under Options -> Advanced Multi-Table Options -> Single click table activation

This fixes having to click on a table once then again to press whatever button/action you want (Obviously a mis-click prevention feature that is very annoying when multi tabling)

As far as adding the other table themes being the cause of lag issues... idk about that one. I have a few laptops & there's never any problem because of that with any of them (& one is fairly old). And this is while running multi tables & with a few sites open at same time.

Well, I'm playing on a desktop with fairly decent specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 @ 2.53 GHz
2 GB DDR3 RAM
GeForce 8600GT
64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium

If the PokerStars software demands more than that -- then that's some shoddy programming there.

More likely, there is some sort of software/server conflict going -- or we just have different expectations for how software should feel. I'll try again with a different desktop to see how it runs there.

Maybe the lag I'm feeling is due to some server issue then? I only started playing there the last two days. It definitely does not feel as smooth as Full Tilt for me right now, animations on or off.

I'm in the same boat as you with the "click to activate" window and the notes thing. I'll definitely be changing that option -- thanks to the poster who typed out the menu tree to find it. The notes thing annoys me a lot too -- whenever a new window requires action it moves the typing action to that window which is monumentally annoying. I much prefer the FTP system which brings up a separate notes window, and allows you to view your notes by mousing over the opponent.

I do like a lot of the things PokerStars has to offer though, which is why I started an account there and it looks like I'll likely maintain it. We should start a support thread about the note taking thing... I'm sure we're not the only ones who'd like to see it changed/improved.

Ive played pokerstars just fine on a old dell inspiron with 256 megs of ram with no issues. 2 GBs for Windows 7 is generally considered the minimum. If any site has programming and resource usage issues it has always been Full Tilt

Playing on an Asus gamer laptop and a relic Dell, both are loaded full on ram though and thats probably why there is no problems here at all.

Thanks for the click thing, suit2please!!!!

Changing the click setting definitely helped things, as did disabling the popup tournament announcer.

Perhaps it is that I've just gotten use to the interface now after a few days of playing -- maybe the server isn't as busy... but logging in today things didn't feel as sluggish.

I will say though that the animation smoothness like the way the cards come out on the flop is much smoother in FTP than PokerStars. After playing PokerStars for a while I can see getting used to it.

mrmonkey, your computer specs are definitely good for any poker site there is. Very nice indeed :)

What I'm thinking is, your internet connection could be what makes you lag.
-What's the speed? Do you share with anyone else or are you the only user?
-Do you have stuff downloading while you're playing? (or the other user)
-Are you watching some tv online or some live stream online? (or the other user)

All these things might affect your connection, thus affecting your lag.

Try to have all downloads off, internet browser off, tv/stream online off, everything off.
If there is another user, make sure that he's not downloading stuff or watching tv or any stream online, or simply turn off the other computer for some minutes while testing the lag issue.
Open a table and check how it goes.

Gday all, Yes me too, and ty again for covering another one of my ???

I have had issues too, feels like the whole program pauses for a few seconds at a time, very unresponsive buttons, the sounds are also coming through out of sync. I thought it was from being on the other side of the world in Australia, but, after reading all the posts on Cardschat, i have come to the conclusion its them and not us.

Hi Franky,

Thanks for the suggestions! However, one of the awesome things about Japan is the internet connections we get here. I'm on basically the equivalent of a 100 mbps T1 line going into my home -- and can grab some crazy download/upload speeds (~30 MB/s down, 12 MB/s up when maxed out). I also made sure to stop any downloads/uploads while playing.

My PokerStars connection also shows 100% almost at all times, so that's probably not the issue... unless PokerStars doesn't have any servers near Japan and it is a ping delay issue -- but this probably isn't the case.

It is much better if u have single click activated. Don't know why that is not the default.

You're using a laptop correct? Are you using a wireless router? I recall when I first began using a wireless router that PokerStars support informed me that I might have some connection issues on account of the wireless router (I forget all the technical mumb jumbo.. I'm a semi-old fart & was near computer illiterate prior to playing online poker). There was something about > some routers would experience more troubles than others.... but also something about > it should/could/might improve if I just log off & on the PokerStars site a bunch of times. Within a few days it was working similiarly in comparison to Fulltilt (but the first couple/few days did kinda suck now that I think about it..... had forgotten all about this). Maybe this is what's goin' on for ya? (I too have an insanely fast internet connection... so I knew it had nothing to do with that).
