Dear Forum Members,

This to bring your benign notice that PokerStars.in wrongly detects my location based on my IP as Hyderabad , Telegangana , Andhra Pradesh , India whereas my real location is Kavali , Nellore ( District ) , Andhra Pradesh , India. As the former location is prohibited playing poker and the result of wrongly detection of my location I cannot play in PokerStars.in . First I contacted customer care service of my inter service provider ,BSNL . The customer care team checked it and confirmed that there is no fault from their end sharing a link https://ipinfo.io/ to check my IP location. I checked it there and several IP location checking websites they correctly detected my location as in Kavali. I have been facing such a problem since May 3 2020 due to update of PokerStars.in. I contacted PokerStars customer care service several times in all means the customer service care team could not reply properly. They just sent two messages blaming I am residing in prohibited area in one mail and in another mail they stated it is fault of internet service provider.

I am online high stakes professional poker player in PokerStars since 15 years and PokerStars.in since inception in India. I devout much time in playing poker. It is my main source of income. Some other poker sites like 888 poker correctly detects my location. Why PokerStars.in is so arrogant accepting the error in detecting location and fixing it.

Playing poker is part and parcel of my life. Now I became crazy. As a last resort I am seeking help from CardsChat forum. Please kindly guide me.:confused:

Thank You,

Regards,

Dr.Siva

Have you thought about changing internet providers? That may fix the issue.

Sounds like ISP routes your connection true a prohibited area.

Here's what you can do:

  • Talk to your ISP about issue maybe they have solution like a static ip address from a non prohibited area.
  • Get a new ISP provider
  • It sounds like you do not like how Pokerstars is treating you. You can simply play on another room there are many other great Poker rooms out there.

Good evening sir. Thank you so much for your suggestion sir. I connected internet with my 4G mobile with dual SIM but PokerStars.in does not allow me to play real money saying that I am from prohibited area whereas as I have no problem in other poker sites. I discussed the problem with my internet service provider customer care team. They came to my house and they showed me checking IP in various sites. They shows my location correctly. I asked them switching my internet IP to Statistic but they told me that there is no fault with them and there is error in PokerStars geolocation software or data and suggested me consulting the customer care of PokerStars but they are not listing my problem and they just sent me two Emails and I have sent them more thirty emails with screen shots of my location based my IP but they did not reply to me. To play other poker sites I have to wake up at night due to different time zones, there are no good poker sites in India other than PokerStars.in which coincides to Indian time zone. I am planning to switch to other internet providers but due to Corona there is lockdown in India so I cannot switch immediately. Another point is when I connected internet with both 4G SIMs it is not allowing me. If the same problems arises after I change my internet provider what can I do? I have been playing in Pokerstars.in since 2018 with same internet service provider up to 3rd May,2020 I have no problem. From then I am facing this issues. It is clearly evident there is a error or bug in geolocation detection software of PokerStars. Why don't it investigate it and solve it? Any other idea please.

Regards,

For what it's worth, that link does not show my correct location.

You can ask your ISP to give you another ip address from different network and see if that helps. Another option is to try testing from the home of your friend or neighbor using different ISP. If that helps switching ISP may be the solution. You can also try to install pokerstars mobile application on your phone and try to login from there. If that works you can use wifi hotspot or usb tether so that you can use your phone's internet from your pc.

Why don't you ask pokerstars support to keep escalating the issue until you get to the right employee in the chain who can actually look into the issue for you

Good evening sir,

Thank you so much for your reply. As you suggested I implemeted steps as follows :

1. I asked my internet service provider to give another IP thet told me that it is dynamic IP so there is no need for another IP.
2. I am living in a small town. So, most of internet users use BSNL as internet service provider like me. I went to one of my friends house there I tried to play real money in Pokerstars, it still that says I am not allowed to play real money games due to I am from restricted area ( actually I am not).
3. I tried to play real money games in Pookerstars in mobile both with wifi and mobile network still it says I am not allowed to play real money games.
4. I connected my lapotop with mobile through hotspot and usb tethering for intenet yet the same problem.

It's driving me nuts.

Good evening sir,

Thank you so much for your suggestion. Up to now I sent more than 30 emails but I did not get proper response from Pokerstars. Why it is neglecting valuable loyalty players like me I don't know. I shall emails again and again till I get a solutiuon from Pokerstars. After Googling the problem I came to know there are errors in geolocation algorithm and data of Pokerstars. It's driving me nuts.

The issue most likely is your IPv6 address. which is showing the wrong location for me too.
I have a business connection, so it routes me to the closest BUSSINESS node. as far as I know there is no way to disable the IPv6 address checker
