Do you earn these if you fold preflop? I've been playing some 25NL and there's been some nice big pots that I haven't been involved in but would have liked the FPPs from. I don't know why but I always thought you got FPPs even if you didn't play the whole hand on stars.

Points on any site are directly related to rake paid. So if you fold pre, your not paying any rake. This is with the assumption you are not part of the blinds.

Not on Full Tilt.

What do you mean? FT will give you points with no rake paid?

Points are assigned according to the amount of rake that is taken on each hand and are equally divided between all players sit at the table regardless of who has contributed to build the pot.
So if you fold preflop on a hand that plays out in way to generate rake you will get the same amount of points as all the other players at the table.
These sites implement the "no flop no drop" policy in order to rake hands in ring mode games.
Even if you are sit out at a table you are entitled to share points as long as the next big blind turn will be on you.

You have to be dealt into the hand. Sitting out will not get you VPP's/FPP's.

At pokerstars for 25NL, the pot must reach $8.00 in order for every player dealt a hand to get 1 FPP or applicable VIP multiplier.

You have to be dealt into the hand. Sitting out will not get you VPP's/FPP's.

Sitting out after you have paid the small blind will generate points to you in the equal amount of the other active players even if you are not contributing to the pot for all the subsequent hands up until the next big blind turn falls on you. If you remain sit out rahter than paying the big blind, cards will no longer be dealt to you and points not assigned anymore.

Read the text in the link I provided above. It pretty clearly states that VPP's are awarded to players dealt into the hand.

This is wrong, you have to be dealt a hand to get points for the rake in that hand.

If you don't get cards, you don't get points.

I thought the gig is if you fold preflop without putting in any money, you do not share the fpp's and if you fold after putting money in, you do share in FPP's.
