I'm fairly new to poker having played 3 months on a $20 bankroll on $2 6-max ($46 at the mo). I'm still getting to the gist of rake, and Rakeback bonuses as the rake seems so minimal in these games.
It looks like when I get 1000 star coins I can claim $10 back, which I assume is the rakeback and that's fine. But as I got around the 600-700 coin mark, I noticed that the chest quota increased from 350pts, to 400, and then again to 600. Big jumps!
I really dislike that they move the goalposts like this, as it has the obvious design of having people chase the rakeback. If it mentioned the increasing chest quotas anywhere I wouldn't have a problem but the moving of the goalposts really rubbed me the wrong way. The positive reinforcement you get from filling the bar and opening chests (even if they don't mean anything until you reach 1000 coins) maintains engagement with the platform and I understand why it is there, even if you're being psychologically conditioned, but the rules have to be clear for me to be comfortable with it.
I switched from playing MTG because of scummy corporate practices and it's disappointing if not much a surprise to find these designs on a top poker site. Are they all like this? To be clear, I'm not annoyed by the rake or rakeback specifically (I'm playing penny stakes, cmon..), I'm annoyed at the design which pokerstars operates.
What do you think? Does anyone know how high the points go up when opening boxes?
