Hi all,

I'm looking for advice from anyone who has placed or tried to place on pokerstars SNG Battle of the Planets Leaderboard.

I've had time to play poker lately, for the first time in months, and I've been trying to sew up the holes in my game. For some background, so far sharkscope says I have an average ROI of about 10% from a 300 game sample, and I usually play TAG until the blinds go up to the 3rd or 4th level. As part of this little experiment I've been playing $1.20 sngs on Stars almost exclusively both for bankroll management and to build up solid strategy and discipline against a field with plenty of fish, calling stations, and all-out bad players.

I've made some great plays, horrible plays, sucked out and been sucked out on, of course. This week I've been setting my sights on the Battle of the Planets Leaderboard, and after 19 games (you need 20 games to to complete a block score) i have a score of 354, putting me in the middle of the current leaderboard. Most scores range from 400-300. Last week's leaderboard range, however, was from about 600-400 with no scores in the 300 range. It starts anew every Saturday and today is only Tuesday.

Here is part of my question: Does anyone know how many points you get for placing in the different MTT sngs? For the single table 9-hand games I'm pretty sure its 46 for first place, 27 for 2nd and around 12 for 3rd. Pokerstars says it only gives Battle of the Planets points for sngs with less than 40 people in it. So I'm wondering if it would be worth it to try and get more points by taking on an 18 or 27 man sng for my last game of the block, or if I should just stick to the 9-hand games that I've hand decent luck with so far?? I'm almost positive first and second place in the MT sngs get more than 1st and 2nd place in the single table, but obviously it's harder to win. I have searched the PokerStars promotion site as well as various forums but have found no definitive answer on points for different places in different sngs..

Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!

Lol I don't know how I missed it but it's right there in plain sight on the promotion website
PokerStars - Battle of the Planets Sit & Go Promotion
second table down that is titled 'number of players'

So now that you've seen the possible point totals what do you think? Go big or nah? Keep in mind that if I don't get near 400 I probably won't make it on the leaderboard.
Thanks again!

I play SNGs almost exclusively and can tell you 2 things:

1. STTs will not get you enough points to do more than eke into the top 100, if that. Payouts go only to the top 50.

2. The MTTs are tougher to win because there are quite a number of players at all levels who target the leaderboard. Even at the $1 level you'll find some are pretty decent.

I now only play the single tables because that's where the money is for me.

Good luck in your quest!

First let me say congrats on the roi, hopefully soon ill be near that too.

I average 280 too 400 points a block. One time playing 27 seat games I had 333 points in 10 games then lost the next 6 games.

Ok so my best place was third on low orbit with 560 odd points, and I was running really hot, I think I cashed in nearly every tourney.

The best advice I can give is to play 18 man sngs and really think before you make any call. Make sure you are deff not beat. Any cash brings points, I have been short stack loads on final table yet cashed.

Sorry but I think you have to either be a amazing poker player to cash in these every week.
