In real life I'm a very kind person who rarely says things to upset people, certainly not unprovoked. However, at the (virtual) poker table, I just love being a completely horrible person. Insulting people's play, laughing at people's bad beats, etc. This isn't even when I'm involved in the hands I'm commenting on, but I just love people hating me at the table. It seems to get me a lot of action and a lot of people trying to bluff me.

Is this a good strategy, immoral, or just unnecessary for a good player (not saying that I am).

Being anonymous allows people to behave differently than they would otherwise behave, prety much without reprecussions. If it makes you feel better to assert that you are a good & kind person & the asinine behavior you use when online isn't the real you, ok. Hell, you may even find someone who believes you. Even if you don't, you have the satisfaction of knowing that maybe, just maybe, you have managed to, in some small way, made someone elses' evening less enjoyable. Congrats. Another good & kind person realizes their dream. ;)

I have no problem with people telling me to f off if they bust out or something like it... Its better that they vent out in the chat than with a gun in their neighboorhood :) I don`t take any insults personally. I have had my moments to :D

Agree with the general "I'd rather him type mean things than shoot people" mentality but what sort of bad beats are you putting down there those are the options?

Best bustout insult was a guy who shipped over a shortstack shove with QQ, I called with AK on the bubble and won. He typed, "get aids" in the box and left. Charming.

I hope I didn't misunderstand this post.. But if I read clearly your not very fond of OP's behavior and think it's not kind of him to make ones evening less enjoyable.

I agree. If you're genuinely good hearted you would probably think about this and wouldn't wanna continue with any berating.

To me it looks like OP's found an angle on players, that i've noticed before as well. Our purpose isn't to make these other players nights more enjoyable, our purpose is to win all their money and have them feeling shittty isn't it?

I tend to ignore people who are out of line in the chat.

If they go over the top I will report them.

Why would you report someone? You lose a great tool to put people on tilt if you can`t talk to them :)

Um, No.
Personally I want the fish to come back again & again. I want them to enjoy sitting on the table. I want them to come back for more & I don't want them to feel bad about losing.

Because it's -ev to be berating the fish on the table.
You mean it doesn't bother you when you're seated on a cash table & there's one goof who's constantly going off on a donkey on the table? Myself, I'd like to reach thru my computer screen & give him a bytch slap.

I suppose you're right.. If you think about it it is negative ev. I've personally never done it, but I honestly feel there might be some value in getting a fish mad and getting him to stack off light

Uh no, our purpose is to take somewhere betwitx most & all of their money & have them thinkin, damn, that was fun, think I'll reload & do this again.
Or, as has been said many times, don't tap on the tank.
This, by the way, is why most folks on this site are so nice to me. :)

If you are a "kind person" then be kind be yourself the cost of cognitive dissonance is going to take a larger toll than the winnings can cover. On the other hand I have heard it said that what a mans real character is can been seen when he thinks no one is watching. I urge you to play two separate sessions one flaming and one not run this for long enough to get a viable sample. Then compare outcomes and see if it is worth it to you. I suspect you will find you are not getting as much monetarily as you think. Which leaves the question why are you doing it?

IMO the players who are going to get tilted by trolling and not turn off your chat or leave are not that great of players anyway and you want them at the table.

I totally agree... I'm a good and kind person and I take that with me to the online games... I don't need to be rude to make others tilt so I can win.. most of them do lose all by themselves. I play poker because I enjoy the game and like to have fun. Second to that I like to win, but being rude is not an option as far as I'm concerned. When I'm having a bad day it sucks when some rude player starts up on me and makes my bad day worse. OP if you are truely a kind person, you should consider staying that way and not end up letting your online personality take over because it just might!

when people try to belittle me because A. I either made a bad call, or B. they are just mad because I won, I politely tell them my reasoning for the call and laugh at them. I love laughing at the people trying to put you on tilt. It usually backfires on them, and they end up on tilt, and I take their chips (with a smile). I don't really see a point changing your personality just to put someone on tilt, they'll usually do that to themselves. :)

At the casino i play live i am always nice to the fish regardless of how bad im running against them. You want these players to enjoy themselves so they believe that loosing there money is all part of having fun. Therefore they are happy i am happy and they keep coming back. Just look at the pros on high stakes poker did you see Jhonny Chan or Daniel Negranue berating weaker players at the table? No never. However i am talking from a cash game prospective but in MTTs its completely different. In Mtts i have been guilty many times of berating bad players.
