Poker Stars and Full Tilt?? Too Big!!!

poker stars and full tilt poker are the two major poker rooms online, they both have, excellent tournament schedules, fantastic promotions, excellent online events... you name it they got it...

BUT, there is one thing which some find as a plus and some find as a negative.

I play mostly Multi-Table tournaments and Sit and Go's.

My problem with these two poker rooms is they just have way too many players, and it makes for very long winded MTT's, especially for small stakes.

On a sandard average traffic poker room you are looking at around 100-300 players in low stakes guarantee tournaments which take around 2, 3 or 4 hours to finish, however on the above poker rooms you could quite easily be playing against 1,000's of players increasing the time of the tournament up to 6, 7 or 8 hours. Now I feel this amount of time to complete a $2.00 MTT, is very long.

My question to all is: Does very large player traffic put you off poker rooms?

Before answering please bear in mind the following:

1. Large player numbers = less updates (due to the fact that they dont need to attract more players) this explains why Poker Stars software is outdated, and to some can be quite ugly.

2. Lower hourly rates for MTT players (due to high numbers of players in MTT's).

What are your thoughts?

umm wat?

- if you don't like the big MTTs both sites offer 90 and 180 man SNGs i think.

- more players = more and speedier updates because bugs get spotted sooner and more improvements get suggested. lol at your logic.

- you can skin stars or FT so they don't look 'ugly'

- how exactly is stars software 'outdated'?

really you are the first person i've ever heard complaining that a site has too much traffic.

as I said the software can be (TO SOME) ugly, and it is outdated, have you played on other rooms of recent?

More Improvements get suggested, but less suggestions acted upon.

MTT's = GTD's, 180 Man Sit and Go's = No GTD's

Also may I please add, how many poker rooms change their software when they lose a lot of their player base.

party poker
Microgaming Poker Rooms (Doyles Room etc)
Cryptologic Poker Rooms (william hill etc)

- 'guaranteed' prizepools are basically a way of enticing stupid people to play tournaments. on any site with more than a few hundred players there is invariably no overlay in them (the prizepool in stars guarantees is regularly at least 1.5* the guarantee for example), so i don't really see what guaranteed prizepools have to do with anything.

- sites probably change their software when they lose a lot of players because they lost a lot of players because their software sucked in the first place (I know Party had a million and one software issues before the big update and only a few less since, heh).

- again i ask you, exactly how is stars software outdated? i haven't really played on many other sites recently so this isn't an attack, it's a genuine question. what is it that other places have that stars does not that makes stars 'outdated'? please don't say anything stupid like a bet pot button, a fold and show option or a bloody rabbit cam.

You're from the Uk right? I play on BlueSq poker. Everynight, they have a $2.00 2k GP rebuy with about 800 runners at a time, (remember you DONT need to rebuy) Sunday morning are the best though, with the same MTTs but only 300-400 runners, i recently placed 7th an it took 4 hours, It's obviously a UK poker site too so it reflects our times as apposed to FTP and PS, it's not very uk friendly. It also has a pretty juicy sign up bonus too i believe ( is it ok to mention that on here?!)

fyi, I play cash on Stars cuz it's nice an soft, but MTTs and SnGs on BlueSQ cuz that's nice an soft

an the amount of drunk UK players at 11pm is PHENOMENAL!

Pound for pound....FT and PS are just the best. The large number of players is a good thing especially the fish

Sometimes, I just don't have 4 hours to plays so knowing that, I'll stick to SnGs or other MTTs that have low player counts unless I'm playing a cash game.

My advise: Stick to turbo SnGs or the 45/90/180 MTTs.

play a game that suits you if you dont wanna play long just play the 45 man or 90 sng things for sure these are the two best sites or even try turbo tournaments which will be shorter

Surely a $10 sit and go with 90 people is a "guarentee" of a $900 prizepool ?

You can customise both full tilt and pokerstars, so your "ugly looking" comment is silly.

Have no problem with either site yes they have lots of traffic but you would get many games if they didn't

without a doubt this site is way to big. I enjoy sites where guranteed tournies actually add money to the tourny not just stand as a far out median. 24k at ftp poker turns out to being 30k
so pointless of even having gurantee

I don't know what the real question is here. I get as many updates from Stars as any other site and what's wrong with their software?

As for the large numbers, it's your choice.From heads up SnG's to 5,000+ in MTT's. The more people in the GTD tourneys the higher the pot prizes. If you're finding GTD's with fewer people paying less than the GTD pot amounts to, I'd question the credibility of a site with such little traffic. Getting pay outs could be a problem.

Playing MTT's obviously means you prefer larger fields otherwise you'd be sitting at a SnG table.

If it's poker income per hour on a $2 wager, look to see what the return is on SnG's vs MTT's .

I personally enjoy the large tournaments on Pokerstars and Full Tilt simply because finishing at the Final Table feels like an accomplishment, even if it is for 20-30 bucks. Weaving through a field of a couple thousand kind of makes me feel good about myself, particularly since most of my poker playing is done for the enjoyment of it, not necessarily to get rich.

I play at both sites mostly (private free-rolls) and do not think they are too big. Most of the weaker players are gone by the first 2 hours anyway.

Some people do not like the larger poker rooms for the reasons you mention. Everyone has different tastes. Luckily, the poker market offers a little something for every taste.

You have the really small rooms that become almost a close knit group because they see each other everyday and fields are very small (Bugsys Club, Carbon, PokerTime, Doyles Room)

Then you have the next step up, where the room's are not as big as PokerStars and Full Tilt but still offer some high value, larger-than-small-room fields (Cake, Ultimate Bet, Absolute)

So, the bottom line is many people feel like you and do not care for the masses and play most of their poker on these other smaller sites.
