Hi all,

I have started with the poker bug yet again lol.... Normally when I play poker online I use Poker Dminator to keep track of my results, bankroll etc... however, that software is very time consuming. I am now looking into buying some sort of software like Poker Tracker, I have used poker office in the past but found this very expensive as it had a yearly subscription fee....

What software would you recommend and why?

Bare in mind, I am looking for software that is cost effective & very easy to use and understand. I have looked at a few and just dont know which is better and more value for money... to name a few

Poker Office
Poker Tracker
Hold'em Manager
Poker Edge 5

Thanks

James:cool:

Hold'em Manager is your best bet IMO. It has an easy to use interface and I like it much better that PT3. I have used both as a reg'd user and while they are both very similar, HEM just grew on me more. As far as Poker Office and Poker Edge, I would just completely rule them out. Both of them have recurring subscription rates(which HEM and PT3 do not) and PokerEdge is going to be banned soon(I actually can't believe it hasn't been yet) because it is no different than buying HH's that you didn't play in, so there is a good chance that if you get that then you are going to be out whatever money you invested in it.

Thank you for replying, and after having a look at your PDF of what all the abbreviations etc mean and how to use them to your advantage that is worth its weight in gold, until I had a quick read through of that I didnt have a clue what all this VPIP etc meant lol. So I cant thank you enough for putting that on CardsChat!

After looking at pboth poker tracker and hold'em manager I feel like you are right in what your saying Hold'em Manager just seemed so much easier to install and import hands etc...

Shame about the trial length on HEM however, it would be better if it was for at least a month or so....

BTW, Just out of curiosity do you have any of the add-ons for Hold'em manager? If so, which are worth splashing out for?

I am mainly a tournament player, but I do sometimes head for the cash games...

Thanks again

P.S. Does HEM track your bankroll etc for you too? If so, do I need to do anything manually fo rit to be tracked?

Do yourself a favor and try both PT3 and HEM. Try PT3 1st though because it has the longer trial and will let you get used to using a HUD/tracking software before you try HEMs much shorter trial. That way when you try HEM you're not getting used to anything but their particular software.

As for PokerEdge it is banned at FTP and Stars at least.

I've been happy with PT3. My trial is about to run out, but I'm strongly considering purchasing it.

I might have to try HEM first though.

I've used PT3 for quite some time now. I was happy with it at first, but if I was going to buy a program 'now', i'd definitely go with HEM. It has alot of other Apps that either come with it, or that you can buy separately that greatly improves it's functionality over what PT3 can do.

Over the line, Smokey! (They have an old theatre here, and last week they put on a showing of The Big Lebowski, while serving Caucasians throughout the movie. It was tons of fun.)

Thanks man.

Always nice to meet someone with good taste in literature. :p

No problem, anything I can do to help. That is why I made it, because I know when I first started looking into tracking software(actually even before that just reading) I felt like I was alwys looking up what abbreviations were.

After looking at pboth poker tracker and hold'em manager I feel like you are right in what your saying Hold'em Manager just seemed so much easier to install and import hands etc...

It would be nice for a longer one, but I like WV's idea. Realistically, I used it so much in my trial period that I had no problem only using it for a week. I had enough hands to import that I had saved that I was able to go right to work.

BTW, Just out of curiosity do you have any of the add-ons for Hold'em manager? If so, which are worth splashing out for?
I have used LeakFinder, and it is a great program, but unless you're willing to devote a lot of time into digging into your game, it probably isn't worth it. There is a lot that you can do just by running your own reports and making observations based on those at first that will save you some money. About the only addon I would consider buying would be TableNinja just because it is badass. I used it quite a bit when it was a free program and loved it, but when it moved to a paid program, I kind of gave up on it. I am not playing the amount of tables that I really NEED it, it was just nice to have if I wanted it.

I am mainly a tournament player, but I do sometimes head for the cash games...

Thanks again

Unless I haven't seen something, HEM itself does not track your bankroll. However, there was an addon that I saw somewhere, I think 2p2, that would track your bankroll for you. I installed it and didn't find it to be extremely useful so I got rid of it, but I know it's out there. It was a free addon I know.

Hope that helps.
