I've never won a serious amount in any one game but overall I have won more than $1,000 and I've never had any problems getting the money.

So, I would say that, yes, poker money is real money.

I am in the same position as Henry,
No big wins but have always been able to withdraw any winnings that I have at the major sites (poker stars, Full Tilt, 888, party poker) without any problems. I think I had to make a deposit first at these sites but since trhat was years ago I cannot state that as being a fact.
So get out there and win.

Never really won serious money, biggest win was $400 don't think it's really serious money as some are making over $100,000 per months playing online poker... and indeed I got paid my winnings.

I think you will have to deposit at least one time before withdrawing.

At some point; I've also been audited/verified on practically every site I play. This means they will ask you to send some documentation proving who you are.

I won big, and tho I could not get it out in one lump sum, I did get it out within a short period of time. I used part of it to get one of my eyes fixed.

My mental state through the process was that it was still play money till it turned into real money in my hands. So I did not really 'need' the money, and until it was cash in hand, I could not count on it.

So now my thought process includes that part of the game which goes beyond what happens at the tables, and includes the mechanics of the pokersites requirements to get that money into my hands.

Of course it's real money, Are you guaranteed to get it nope. Depending on what site you play on it can vary. Playing on well known sites will greatly increase your odds of getting payed out. If you play on the newly regulated sites in the USA i'm sure there is a 99% chance you'll get your payout, but you need to pay taxes on it.

I've never won huge online, my biggest single win was $1000 (anyone remember the Daily Dollar on Full Tilt years ago?) but I cashed out 2 or 3 times a year on FT and PS when I got my bankroll up enough without incident.

I never won substantial amounts but got paid by several sites.
At pokerstars I have deposited once and problem to withdraw.
At Party Poker and unibet I had free money and never deposited and have withdrawn without any problem. So, yes it is possible

A few times I won around 1-2k $ but never more, never had any problems with withdrawing... Send the documents and get the money, eventually deposit 25$ so they can validate your skrill and thats it

they might have changed their rules
You can play real money if you win $$$ on freerolls, although some sites require a deposit to withdraw those winnings

I won a considerable amount back in 2008 and had zero issues getting the money. So, yes, poker money is in fact real.
