I find I can not focus when I have a lot on my mind and tend to stick to freerolls just to blow off steam and often play online as a little bit of a distraction.

So my question is.... Do you play poker when you are down or depressed?? Do you find it helps to forget about your problems and take out your aggression? Or do you stay away totally when you are not well rested and have the right mindset sort of speak? Do you ever play with the feeling that u might lose your bankroll!? Or do u know when to quit??? Or do u play better during these times???

wow all the above :) but I eject distractions when I want to play. To me the game afoot is my only focus so I guess you could say it is therapy from all other things.

You are right on the money. I also play when there is a lot on my mind, and even a bit stressed. I don't play well, when this occurs, but it sure takes my mind off things.

Of course you play the free-roles, and not throw money away. Nice subject, and thank goodness for the free-role.

I've been on a card dead streak for a week - doesn't matter which house - can't catch a card with a butterfly net :stickyman so I gotta add - Playing poker online... when not to play - is when in card dead mode - I should just be saying WHOA (as in Horse Riding, the command used to stop or slow down horses.):banghead:

Try playing on different times of the day. Does playing in the morning make you feel better? Are you more stressed during night hours? Experiment each giving one week to both. You have to keep experimenting yourself with constant results instead of just once. You'll have to find the answer yourself, sorry

but no to your answer about being all stressed out and playing poker. You should not release some steam by playing poker. If you feeling down, then do something physical like running or chilling at the park. Poker should be fun when you're playing. being pissed off and playing poker is a bad mental mix.

Sometimes I will still play at times I feel are far from 'ideal' but will often play different stuff than I typically would (ie. would never play MTT's if feeling down or distracted).

I like to play with nothing taking my attention, no open social networks or loud music

If my mind is perturbed with something, or I'm depressed ou upset, I try t away from poker, because I know the risk that this situation is for my bankroll. But depends of the personality of each one.

For me, if I'm not focused I won't play anyway. Maybe freerolls, but I try to keep away from them too because they can't give me the pleasure of higher tournaments.

When I start to play being upset or stressed my bankroll says 'goodbye' in a short time. On the one hand playing poker is a good thing while sorrow, but it's easy way to shift money. So trying to distance myself from poker-room until I am quite myself again :)

I don't play if I'm not in good mood. Because otherwise I would play bad and lose and would feel even more down.

I never played with feeling that I might lose my whole bankroll, (when I dont count those ,,bankrolls,, of few dollars on some smaller poker sites which I won in freerolls). But sometimes I play freerolls when I am not in good mood and yeah, it probably influence my game in bad way. I am not that patience so I make more mistakes (knowingly). If I feel like sh1t I usually dont play for money.

I would never play poker when I'm in a bad mood, depressed or on tilt. When you're feeling these emotions, it's normally best to get some fresh air, clear your mind and come back when you feel refreshed. If you are playing poker while you're feeling these emotions, it's almost inevitably going to lead you to losing a significant amount of your bankroll, especially if your emotions are forcing you to play limits that are higher than what you normally play. If you want to play poker or you feel that the best way to clear your mind is to play poker, then freerolls are the way to go. Hope this helps.

I mostly play live, so maybe I have a different perspective. Sometimes sitting down at the table after having a long day of work or being pissed at your gf, can be therapeutic. Also winning a couple pots can turn your day around. I don't tilt, probably because I never gamble out of my bankroll. Online if you have to play and are not on your game I would switch to mtts because you can't have a giant downswing like in a ring game.

The past week has been all of those. I'm sick with something like the flu, and along with is some depression because it's not fun being sick, and I'm not getting out much. And it shows in my game. So for me, it's not good to play with those things going on with you.
