While it's certainly not against the law to play with your friends, it can really be unethical. But, if you are trying to take each other's money....I don't think there is anything wrong with that haha

But playing with friends is not the least bit unethical
per se, and no siet discourages it to my knowledge. What is unethical, and outright against the rules, are cheating, chip dumping, and other sorts of collusion, some that will get you banned. Unfortunately most are hard to prove. If you're fond of MTTs, you cut down on most of it, as you can't pick your table.
Not saying that you 'would' be cheating, but can't honestly say we see many 'cheaters' who would post something like: "I cheat with my friends online. Is there anything wrong with it?"
There aren't any rules prohibiting friends from playing together online, but the temptation to cheat is just too much for many to resist. How does anyone know if you and your friend are talking on your cells or using IM, or sitting in the same room on two laptops watching each other's hands?
Communication between you and your 'friends' of any kind during play would constitute collusion, and there ARE rules against that. Mostly resulting in closure of the accounts and confiscation of funds.
Most poker sites have security measures that recognize irregular play patterns outside the norm of poker standards. It can and does alert their security staffs to the players involved and they will investigate.
If you truly just want to 'play poker with your friends' - get a home game going.
Like Nick, I'll take the OP at his word about not cheating. But I'd have to wonder why ask such a question if you weren't worried about some side activity being caught? But not sure I'd agree with you here, Nick. It's not like Full Tilt would assume you're guilty until proven otherwise, if you're chatting at the table about the car and girlfriend. Or is it?? No, there's probably no way to be sure you weren't on 2 laptops sitting next to each other, butthen there would no need to talk in the chat box
at all. But if you different IP addresses (and I guess the 2 laptops in same room can have different IPs if one plugged in, the other a wireless with a card?).
You say 'no communication'. What about us? What if I'm a tiny tourney like last night at UB (let's pretend only 9 people registered), and I'm talking to someone about going to Atlantic City, family, moving? Is that enough evidence for collusion?
