I recently changed computers and when I downloaded FT on the new one and logged in, I noticed I didnt have any of my old player notes. E-mailed them and go this reply:

Currently, Full Tilt Poker's player notes feature is integrated into a couple of
files related to your player account. The files are named, playername.dat and
playername.xml, and is written in a format intended to be read by the game
client.

Please realize that every time you move locations or reinstall Full Tilt Poker,
this file will no longer contain player notes taken in the past. In the future,
I would recommend backing up both files before reinstalling or updating our game
client.

The files can be found in the main directory of your Full Tilt Poker
installation. By default this location is C:\Program Files\Full Tilt Poker.
You may copy the files to a portable storage device or email them to yourself
and download the files onto your new computer.

Once Full Tilt Poker has finished installing on your new computer, simply move
the files into your Full Tilt Poker directory. This should allow you to retain
your old player notes on your new computer.
Note: where it says playername.dat/xml , playername is your name.

Just figured I would pass on the information incase anyone needed it.

Well that's great ya, but to take notes of that many players means years of playing.

Then over the years or many months that have gone by 60% of your covered player base has changed their styles.

So now your notes would be absolutely garbage. They would be considered untrue and false. Is it really worth it ?

If you still have your old computer, just import them to the new one.

Actually, thats a good point. After reading this, I started adding the month and year to my notes. Then later if I see a really old one, I know it might not be completly accurate.

And is it worth it? Well styles can change for some player from hand to hand, but some stay the same. I dont think notes can be completely trusted, but any little bit of info you might have on an oponent could be helpfull. There has been times I sat at the same table with someone for two hours in a tourney. Learned a bit about how they play. Why waste that time when you might see them in a day or two?

Another thing I like do is mark those guys that go All IN with anything 1st hand with red. Then if I start a tourney and find myself at a table with 6 red marks, and Im 1st to bet....no limps.
Also I like to mark auto folders with Yellow. Sure that might not be true the next day (or even in an hour) but if the tables get re-arranged a few times, and I see them again in the same tour.... might easy blinds to pick at.

But mostly I think it just gives me something to do when the cards are running cold.:joyman:

One other thing I use notes for is to enter forum members so if I meet them on the felts, I know they are from the forum, or several if that is the case. Surprising how many are cross-over players. I just enter the date and forum abbreviation so I know in the future.

We all know a lot of players by name, but with new players coming onboard all the time, can't remember them all, at least I can't.

Sorry to sound thick, but what are cross-over players? :)

Guess it's not an 'official' term, just one I use to refer to those who are active on more than one forum and that I encounter playing sponsored games for those forums.

One player comes to mind at the top of the list. He plays in another forum's games and plays nlhe like a maniac. I made notes on that a while back. Then I noticed him here on CC and expected the same, and his play is totally different in CC games. He's like Jeckyl & Hyde.

Just makes for interesting comparisons when you keep that kind of notes on ppl. Didn't mean to confuse or confound anyone ... :D

Oh yes, that is interesting. I have noticed the same names turning up at various poker forums, of course, but hadn't noticed the Jekyll and Hyde effect so far. Have to keep an eye out for that!

I like to use the player notes. I use them for freerollers, sng's and the ring games. I think it's a good way to keep an eye on players. A potential downfall is the notes you take today might not be useful tomorrow. The player might be inexperienced but as he gets better at playing his game might change as well. Being able to use different colors is good in case you have notes on someone who is freerolling and all of a sudden they pop up in an sng. Every piece of information is useful !!!

Excellent point, Nick. I do this as well. Since I, and several other CCers, play in tourneys sponsored on other forums, I find this valuable as well. I have, on occasion noted the same style changes as you mention in your note on cross-overs. I usually add "Dangerous" to their notes, as players who can mix their play up this much are definitely to be watched carefully.

I find it also allows me to track PW thieves/traders/beggars across forums, which, if time allows lets me check their membership status on the various forums and report them if they don't show up.

with all the notes on everybody that must be one heck of a list and then when your playin against them again maybe they have improved enough that ur notes are no good but im sure there are some players who will always be fishes and[ those are probably the people who drive in front of me with there blinker on for 40 miles lol sorry venting off track ] but all in all never have used notes figured i would never run into them again but with the forum freerolls and private tourneys its time to start.
