It has been a long time since I played online. I first signed up at party poker in 2002 or 2003. It used to be that you could get a decent game where most people actually valued the play chips, or at least the idea of playing a good game of cards, and having some nice chat, without losing anything but points.

I have been playing on a few sites this week to see where I might want to play online. Play money play is pathetic.

I like the idea of playing against people, whether it is for money or points. But my experience with on line play is that people play terribly when they play on line.

How do you find a good game on line.

On pokerstars I have found that the play money games be fun and even competitive at the 2000 and 10,000 levels. I have never played higher than these but to me they play close to 1-2 and 5 dollar games.

When it's not for real though people will always be willing to take more chances. Playing in these games has actaully helped me loosen up and take chances in some spots where I would have normally not seen the value in raising or staying in the hand.

Also good for learning a new game style.

I have not registered at Pokerstars yet. Just FT. I have found that if you enter the playchip tournaments and wait for all the idiots to go broke you can play a pretty good game.

I want to get used to the sites before I invest my cash. I was thinking of starting with a first deposit of $400 - $600 as that is about what I normally play at B&M casinos and I want to maximize any fund matching I can get.

But I want to get a good feel with play chips before I start.

1st ... YES... online anonimity definitlly seems to breed more bad play than face to face...and just puely practice games are incrediblely bad....but there are a few poker sites(bodog/PDCpoker etc.)where playing in the play money(chips)games can actually get you some real money from steps or in trade or points that can buy you into real money tourny's so in those games the players are not so wild or donkish but still some loose play.but since your looking for a single site to play and deposit at some questions come to mind .....what type of games are looking to play Ring? sit n gos? MTT? do prefer graphic extras(i.e. smileys etc.) or no fluff.....and I see your a USA player too which limits where we can play ...the best you can do is download or tour a bunch of sites from the different networks that accept us to check out to see their graphics, game's offered, tournament schedule, how active the tables are, deposit bonuses ,deposit /withdrawl methods etc. to find the one(or more) you like enough to make a deposit.

Ace, I'll check for the 500k play chip on FT, that seems like a hell of a lot of play chips to acquire with all of the donkeys that don't seem to care.

Surf Rat,that anonymity & bad play is why I have stayed away from playing online. I will probably mostly play cash ring games & 6 max starting at lower stakes & moving up as rapidly as I can with good BRM. I do like to enter good SNG's & small MTT's but those may take a while to find. Graphics & fluff are not nearly as important as good play is but they can be nice. I would like some feedback from others on what their favorites are and why.

Thanks for the replies. Talk to you soon.

I have heard you can sell your poker stars play money chips. Is this true? and why would someone purchase play money chips?

I know, if you earn a 500,000 in play money you can buy in to a $40 tournament on Full Tilt.

Also, for every hour of play on Bodog you earn a point worth $.01. You can 4 table earning $.04 an hour.
