It is my understanding that in most tournament they payout the top 10% but on FT freerolls they seem to pay the top 27 no matter how many runners there are and yet party poker payout the top 1000 for the freerolls which is generally slightly more than 10%.

Now I know the payouts on PP start at around 4 or 6c and the FT payouts start at $2 but for my money I would rather play the PP freerolls as they pay out more players and therefore are more easily able to cash.

I take it there are no rules about how much of the field should be paid out. Can anyone enlighten me on payout structures for tournaments and why FT has such a low payout number?

Each site has it's different freeroll strategy, some like UB will put 1-30 in a special end of the week freeroll while splitting up 50 bucks with 1-18 and some like bodog have $500 freerolls that usually hover around 3000 i believe and pay roughly the same spots.

For some reason by me it seems all the local bar tourneys and such I play in stick to the 10% rule more so then the online sites, then again, this is just my observation.

Each poker site has different payout structures, even within the individual site. FullTilt will pay out generally 10% - 15% of the tournament entries and pokerstars generally 15% - 20%. The percentages are dependant on the type of tournament. The lower the percentage, the higher the payout for the 1st and last qualifiers - the higher the percentage, the lower the payout for 1st and last. If you feel you can place in the top 10% of a tournament, then look for those that payout in this range. For buy-in tournaments look for guaranteed payouts and if the tournament does not get enough entries to cover the guarantee, this is a bonus (there are some but you have to look).

Generally because FTP has some the worst open freerolls of all the sites IMO. In regular tournys, FTP pays out the normal 10-20% depending on the Tourny. PS also pays a set amount on its Freerolls to qualify to Freerolls :joyman: I would avoid like the plague either of these two set-ups

Probably because they want to make freerolls somewhat frustrating, in order to encourage people to actually deposit.

I tend to agree with them, tbh. Especially considering they finance the freerolls out the rake I pay them (more than $1k per month). Which is only fine if the promotions they offer encourage more fishes to deposit. Otherwise I'd rather get some more rakeback % than let them sponsor freeroll players.

Because its just a $100 game. The $1000 freerolls which Full Tilt run from time to time pay out a much wider field. $100 split between say 200 places would be pennies. I'd rather play a tougher game for a prize half worth winning.
