Hi all,

I've seen a similar thread to this but didn't want to jump on the end of that one since it was over a month old...

Ok, so I've been doing a little bit of research regarding the different Poker rooms available and have some ideas, but I would really appreciate any insight into where you think it would be best for me to start playing online.

Here is as much background information as I can think is relevant:
- Starting playing more seriously a few months ago.
- Game NL-Holdem
- Have read a few basic books and am looking to read more, also trying to be an active member on CC.
- Mainly want to play online to get better at the game through experience and so I can have hands to post on CC. Priority is not making lots of money - Realistically, I don't know if I'm good enough yet...
- Current playing style TAG, with a temptation to play cash micro's as a NIT (Read that was a good idea somewhere...)
- Only real experience thus far is 8-10 man SNG (live) and I would also like to start playing cash micro stakes to see which game suits me best.
- UK player
- Budget <£100, but I would also like to get some HUD software in this initial outlay

My basic understanding thus far:
- 888 - good for beginners
- Titan - better traffic than 888
- pokerstars - v good but lots of good players that I might get intimidated by?
- Some sites have deals with HUD software to allow you to get them for a discounted price/'free'.

Any thoughts on any poker sites that would be good for me would be very much appreciated...

Thanks in advance

Pokertracker I believe has a free mo. trial or it used to. That way you can use the 100euros for a starting roll and buy it once you profit. As for rooms, if I could play anywhere it would be pstars for sure.

Where are you from? If payout time is your main concern then go with bovada if in the us, if not then from what I hear is pokerstars

Thanks for the replies so far

I'm from the UK and payout time isn't a big concern.

Should I be concerned about getting annihilated on PokerStars? - heard there are lots of very good players on there...

Hi DrSparky

I am also from the UK and started playing just under a year ago. I started with party poker. It's pretty good as it has lots of bad players and a special beginners section too where play is probably even worse! :D I did well on that site and managed to win from the beginning just by following my handchart and playing reasonably tight (well compared to the huge fishes on there) with lots of help from the great players on CC.

I then moved to Titan and tilted off my whole bankroll by playing high speed poker (also called Rush/Zoom/FastForward on various sites). I would recommend as a beginner to stay away from those types of tables and to stick to regular speed. Seems like a good idea the time but can mean you lose your BR pretty quickly even if you know what you're doing. Only takes a downswing to send your hard won BR down the drain...

In October I moved to poker stars. Like you I was a bit wary because of everything I'd heard about the good players but they don't really exist at 2nl and that's where I'd suggest you start. Even if you have a bigger BR I'd recommend that you start with $50 or so at 2nl.

Regarding the HUD: I got my Holdem Manager 2 software free by going to their site and signing up to one of their "Get it Free" programs. It means that you will get dollars to spend on your tracker by just playing at sites (you download the software for their affiliated sites through their special link) and collecting points. I'm sure Poker Tracker do the same too.

Until you qualify, you can sign up for the free trials. Both I believe do 30 day free trials, so you get 60 days grace to earn the points you need to get it free and also can find out which of them you prefer using.

Hope this helps and good luck at the tables! :)
