I don't know what took me so long to begin my online poker career. I don't even know what inspired me to finally take the plunge. And I cannot recall which site referred me, but at the end of June this year, I started on BetOnline; time that has significantly changed my playing style.
Over these next few posts, I will attempt to give an honest portrayal of my experience as a newbie to online poker.
Sir, just remember, online is totally different from live.

re: Poker & Online Poker Newbie
Hi Eddie and welcome to Cardschat, and since you are a new player you have come to a place that can help you all the way. There is much to learn. I wish I had been a member here when I started 13 years ago. I knew nothing about poker until 1 1/2 years ago. What are you starting out to play first? What level I mean. And you said you started at Betonline and I don't care what anyone thinks, I would not risk 25 cents at their site. ACR/BCP are great sites but their freerolls are small unless the put up some all of a suddon. Also Full Flush Poker is a real good site. They are my best one. You take a look. They have the same software as Betonline but that are independent from each other. FF has daily freerolls worth playing and not so many players enter. There is a $500 freeroll every Friday night. That's a big on as far as freerolls go. One more thing, if you look at FF and like them, if you download from here you will get a $100 freeroll from here every Monday night. I will always promote them on here because I've had a good history with them. Well good luck to you at whatever site you play on and at what level too GL
