It's just a way for the site to collect extra rake like a BBJ on a smaller scale. It's stupid. Believe it or not bad beats are what make poker great.

Good marketing ploy but let's face it Bad Beats happen with the live deck too. Like WV it is part of what makes poker great. You know how they say "That's poker"

Having said that though I still wouldn't mind getting my bad beat money back :p

But.. you have to pay extra rake to have this type of insurance policy, no?

It's probably quite unprofitable in the long run.

I'm gonna try it out for shits and giggles. There's a new player freeroll on Sunday so if I bink some cash I'll give it a go, if not I can just delete it. I don't think it's worth putting any money on there though.

I don't think so. No extra rake it seems. It's wild. It looks like the fool that sucked out doesn't get the entire pot. Instead he only gets the remaining pot, after the bad beat player gets their money back.

Here are the rules from the website:

Yeah, looks like no extra rake and the money is taken from the pot and returned to the player! Terrible idea. You think people get pissed when they take a bad beat, let's see how hard they tilt when they suckout with say KK v AA only to have their winnings taken from them.

Yeah, I seriously doubt this is going to last very long. But what the hey, might as well check it out.

Kinda defeats the purpose. You win, but you lose, you lose, but you win....

Lol so in essence, what they are doing is equity chopping at the point where the money went in?

Worse. They're returning the entire amount bet if the beat qualifies. So if you get in as an 80% favorite, you get 100% of your $$ back and your opponent who sucks out gets all his $$ back (minus standard rake of course).

Sounds boring.

I think they should make it were the donk puts his money in as a 4 to 1 dog and loses the pot he has to pay 4 to 1 to his opponent. So donk calls 5 and loses and has to pay the extra 15 for being a donk. (donk tax) If he sucks out he gets to keep the whole pot and pay no donk tax.

If playing NBB Poker and I got all-in with KK or worse vs AA, the cards were flipped, and saw I had less than 20% chance to win... I think I'd still be pretty pumped to only get my money back if I spiked the king.

But I know how much I hate it when losing while holding the AA in standard poker. The game is interesting.

No you wont because you get your money back on the times when you should be winning their money as well. You lose all your money when you dont win. You are actually lowering your equity.

Correct. In real poker KK beats AA ~18% of the time AIPF. At this site KK beats AA AIPF 0% of the time.

Weird, I signed up last night and was never asked for a phone #, nor did this issue come up at all.

I give this site a year tops. Gimmicky stuff like this is ridiculous. Basically it sounds like it would take the drama and suspense out of poker. Maybe I'm just not getting the appeal. Not for me.

Yeah, I signed up with no problem. I would have just entered a standard US phone number (XXX-XXX-XXXX), though I don't recall entering one either.

Possibly true on the less drama part, but it might just take the agony and frustration out as well. The freeroll tomorrow is worth a try.
