Hi all.

To beat the bordem I find myself surfing the net, watching TV, etc

It got me thinking, should I be concentrating on the tourny from hand one? I know a lot of TAG players who are are happy to sit and avoid the bloodbath, especially in the first hour. So in reality, they are playing the cards, not the player.

I do change the way I play, so if I have decided to loosen up and in the early stages play any 2 paint, gap/ suited connectors, etc, u r kept busy.

On the other hand, playing TAG can mean sitting for hand after hand (as I`m sure you guys will know?)

So, any thoughts or solutions guys ? :)

My approach (in a freezeout, rebuys are obviously different) is this:

During the first level or so, when blinds are really low, I`ll play almost any 2 cards, especially from LP, hoping to see a cheap flop. I feel it`s worth risking a little of my stack in the hope of hitting the flop and picking up a nice pot early on.

It also may deceive the opponents into thinking I am a loose player, so they may be more inclined to call my bet when I hit a good hand later.

After these early stages, I will play very tight indeed until the blinds reach a level (about 10 per cent of the starting stack) that makes it worth playing to steal. In this tight phase, which may last an hour or more depending on the structure of the tourney, I generally listen to music or to a chat-show on the radio to stave off boredom.

I don`t think it`s a good idea to watch TV. This takes too much of your attention and prevents you from following the game and making player notes. Surfing the net is just about do-able if you flip back to the game regularly and keep an eye on the action. It`s not ideal, but I do it myself, so can`t tell you not to without being a hypocrite.

If you have a poker book or magazine, read that while keeping one eye on the game. This works as boredom relief, but also keeps your head focused on poker.

I watch High Stakes Poker on my PC. I have my screen resolution set so I can both watch the show and the table at the same time. Also keeps me from playing stupid hands whn I'm watching them lose with stupid hands :)

I play nice and tight during the early stages - as Doyle put it, turn up and sit on your hands for the 1st few levels. In the mean time, I input all the details of eliminated players into PT.

To combat the fold, fold fold boredom I like to join a cash table. Just join a micro table and play fairly loose. It combats boredom and you could likely win a little bit of money while you are doing it.
Of course then there is the problem of bad beats on your side game putting you on tilt and screwing up your tourney.........
