I couldn't believe it when it started, and even now it boggles my mind.
Went to play a tourney last night, Normandie Casino. Was doing fine, but somewhere around level 7, a ****ing Mariachi Band broke out!!!! No shit, a Live Mariachi Band in the already loudest casino I can imagine! It gets uncomfortably loud there, probably above safe loudness limits of 100 decibels.
People jerked at the first note, and it was like an earthquake, the overwhelming look on folks faces was 'WTF??'
They played a 20 minute set and took a break, then set up over the tourney section! A break and color up occurred and everyone went outside while the Mariachi band played to a mostly empty part of the Casino. They were leaving that area as the break ended.
The whole thing radically changed my frame of mind, I got edgy and pissed. If I were playing a ring game I would have got up, registered my complaint, and left the casino. I was in a tourney however and had no choice. I did register my complaints, and will likely never play there again. (Not really, they do have a couple of unique tourneys).
But the story will spread, and I will tell it all around L.A.
They might have been the best Mariachi Band in the world, no the point, on occasion I enjoy the festivities where Mariachi Bands are a natural fit. This weren't one of them....
I left wondering what happens next week? Jugglers and Clowns, or a military marching band???
