I'm not sure I understand what the point is in joining different poker rooms on the merge network. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only thing different between Carbon Poker, Lock Poker, and Black Chip Poker...are the...skins? So the players "currently online" are the total amount of players COMBINED in all poker rooms on the merge network? Does this mean that all the same tournaments and SNG's with the same players currently registered being offered on Carbon are the same as on Black Chip? Maybe I'm totally misunderstanding the way this works but I'm purty confused right now lol...

on merge network the regulair tournaments and games are the same on all skins !

but each skin has his own special games and offers that are specific for that skin, thats the reason why joining more skins on the same network can be handy .

sign-up bonuses

And yes, pretty much all the games are the same on each site... all sharing Merge network.
It's the same with iPoker network (ie. Titan, williamhill, bet365, Poker770, ChiliPoker, etc.)... with a few games on each of the sites being different from the others (ie. WilliamHill has the daily SuperSeries, Titan has some special country-specific tourneys).

itops is on the cake network, but only i tops has been running 500$ free-rolls and 500$ added cash buyins on the weekends lately. the buy-ins have had some very low attendance. cake has some good private tourneys. having more playing options makes finding a game worth your time make signing up for multiple skins on the same network worth while.

sign up bonuses and customer support varies

I've played on a few merge skins, and black chip poker is definitely the best all around, customer support responds quickly

black chip also has the highest rakeback deals if you know the right people

In my opinion it goes in this order:

Carbon>>RPM>>Lock>>BCP

Yes, the regular tournaments are the same for all skins of merge, but they have different promos. Carbon in my opinion has awful promotions, from the merge skins, the less worse is Hero Poker, but the promos it's not good too. If you are a US player you need to play in these rooms, but there are a lot better promotions available.

yes you can get rakeback from more than one skin. as to the % it would depend on your rakeback site and the skin.

merge

It is all one site, everybody from every merge site plays together. This is a tactic to get more traffic and more revenue. Each site has some slight differences in promos. I use black chip by the way, can't remember my carbon account lol.

Merge network continues to honour it's existing rakeback deals, but does not offer conventional rakeback to new players on any of it's skins.

You can get a form of rakeback by exchanging VIP points for cash, and there are deals out there that I believe will put you in at a specific VIP level so that you will be able to exchange points more or less straight away. The percentage will depend on your current VIP level.

This is the very reason I laugh when I hear that there are many more fish on this site or that site when they are all on the same network. Go figure.
