Playinjg a table on Ladbrokes. Chatting a bit with a swedish guy, we have been switching stacks a few times. Other player decides he only wants to hear english. We ignore him and talk on. He responds with: r u fuc kn stupit

I'm in friday mode. Had a couple with the mates before going home from work and not in the mood to stand down. Especially to some North Belfast crapjock. Unfortunately i (because of the above) respond along the lines of p*ss off, stup*d git

Normally i have chat off. Exactly because of situations like this. I dont mind bullies at the table, but my temper have a hard time taking verbal abuse. And true to form, i couldt really get it behind me and start playing real poker again.

How do you all handle people like this??

um, I wouldnt want two people speaking swedish at my table either. He shouldnt swear at you but most sites have an english only rule so you cant collude in another language.

Costa has many non-english speaking people (at least english is not their first language) and I tell them to please speak in english. Most of the time they say sry and stop. If they don't I would be inclined to contact support as it is against the TOS.

As far as people in general being asses just ignore them, that will put them on tilt cause they need the attention.

Point is, you were in the wrong. ( regardless if he was too )

The question is not " how do you handle people like this?" - but how should I handle myself?

this maybe an unpopular response but had you acted correctly the situation would not have arisen. Full stop.

Sorry if you do not want to hear this.

Speak in English at the table, failing to do so is violation TOS, and there could be possible consequences. Saying that however, insulting people is not the way around this, for either of you. In future just ignore the chat. :)

I hate it when people dont speak english at the table.
If you can speak english and the majority of the table is speaking english then why chat in a different language, there is no point.

This also happened to me yesterday in a freeroll at Carbon Poker. Two people were speaking a foreign language; their avatars were the Swedish flag, so I'm not sure if Swedish is a language or not. The one was a complete donk and kept going in every hand. I couldn't tell if they were colluding or not, but it didn't appear to be the case. Eventually, the problem sort of worked itself out; I got moved to another table, fixing the problem.

I would recommend, in the future, just asking them politely to just speak English at the table. Most of the time, people will probably accept it and either stop talking or keep talking in English. If not, there are pretty much only two things you can do about it. Like mentioned above, you could report the incident to higher authorities as it is against the rules. Or, you could just try to ignore it. I know it gives them an unfair advantage, but it shouldn't really affect your game all that much. Regardless of how much they know, the only tool available to you is to play your game with your skills. It will be that much sweeter when you knock them out. :D

Hang in there!

Hmm, hadnt given the language much thought, as much tournaments i enter into have people speaking in a variety of languages i cant speak. (Russian being the one i really - REALLY - cant make sence out of).

To my defence i should add, that we only exchanged 2-3 remarks about our passing fortunes.

English only then. Ah well. Think ill stick to the advice and turn chat off again anyway. My temper seems to be working against me otherwise...

lost temper??

I admit.. Ive gotten into "chat mode" more than Ive wanted to. Sometimes its cool, sometimes its a pissing match, and all you want to do is take that AS#### down. then ya lose your game, and its not poker anymore.

Poker like any other sport unfortunately has its wankers. Its easy to talk trash when you dont have to look your opponent in the eye.
Chat holds no interest for me just for that reason. Im interested in taking thier money, nothing more. I leave it off, always

I usually tell them I'm gay and ask if they are flirting with me.

If they keep going with the swearing then something like

"ur makin me hot"

often has an impressive effect.

Rarely I speak my native language at a table if I can't express it properly in English... but when doing so I always ask the table if they have objections if I do so.
