A live poker room near me is advertising on Craigslist to hire graveyard shift poker props to keep their games going. Opinions on this?:

Nice to see a local Sacramento player on these boards!

That's a tough shift to be workin'.. I don't know if I could even stay focused. How much time do you put in live right now? If you can work that schedule and already put in a lot of hours during the week and your bankroll is sufficient, I don't see why not!

Which cardroom around town is it? The only cardrooms that offer 1/3 are Limelight, Folsom Lake Bowl, Rancho, and Capitol maybe?

I think most other cardrooms have 2/3 instead.

Actually, I've only played live in Reno and home games. Only a couple times a year. Haven't played in Sac yet. Too wrapped up online.

I bet it's Capital. Limelight and Folsom have other income avenues.

Why are you not playing the live games around town?! There are so many bad players! I mean REALLY bad.

What NLHE stakes do you play online? If you are beating at least 25NL, you will crush 1/3 or 2/3 at any cardroom here in town..

I play mostly SNG's. Was thinking about the Morning Minis at Lucky Derby. Only $17 or something.

lol $20/hr would be hella profitable to just sit there and play $1/$3 Full Ring and fold all night long, unless you're short handed then that kinda sucks

Eh.. You'd be better off playing a $17 online SnG. Small buy-in tournaments around town have bad structures and are more of a crapshoot.

Unless, you like that sort of thing. But when it's a crapshoot and you are a good player, you lose your skill edge. You are better off playing cash or taking the $20/hr as a prop-player.

If you don't play cash at all though, would the cardroom still accept your poker resume? Or do they not care?

Hmmm. I guess they don't care about skills since they say in the ad "while learning new skills and improving your overall game".

I was just looking for opinions on the value ($20 p/hr graveyard while using your own roll). Plus I know that not everyone agrees on whether or not the existance of prop players at a room is desirable.

Just remember, as a prop player you will not get to choose which game you want to play in. You mainly will be required to get a table started (normally shorthanded) or jump into a game that is about to break. Being a prop is not as easy as just sitting back and earning your hourly rate.

Anyone else have opinions on this?

Value of the job and its conditions?

How about the morality of having "house" players?

I dont think prop players r a big deal. I see em all the time at Lucky Derby. My question is....why do casinos attempt to blend em in? They're so "camouflaged" it seems.
