home game last night and another situation we did not really know the rule for:

player says 'raise to 60' but pushes forward 80 chips

what does this mean?

1 the bet is 60 and the players takes 20 chips back

2 the bet is 60 but the player has to forfeit the extra 20 chips to the pot

3 the bet is 80

4 none of these

anyone know the rule for this?

What did he do first, or was it at the same time?

The way we play, the bet would be 60 if he declared the bet before putting any chips in the middle or did it at the same time, we say verbal over chips since we allow for math mistakes. If he put the chips in the middle and then said raise 60, the bet would be 80.

We go by what happened first, the chips moving to the middle or the declaration of intention. We all try to practice declaring our intention and then putting our chips in the middle. Helps prevent those types of situations.

good answer gf

it all makes sense to me

i don't recall which was done first in this case, but i guess as long as we establish these rule details as we go along then our game will be better for it

its always been great fun, but for my liking, a bit unruly, too much chat and not enough paying attention

last two times i have not played but dealt the game, to try and instill a bit of disipline and keep the game moving

it really worked well, everybody really enjoyed it and said how much better it was

trouble is, i don't know if they will let me play anymore, i think they have gotten use to having a dealer :)

We tried this at our home game. When you draw for a dealer button, whoever get the high card is also the dealer for the night. He still plays, but is responsible for dealing all hands. It is alittle distracting but not too bad for that player. Someone else can collect the cards if the dealer is the one who won the pot and is collecting his chips.

If you are stuck just dealing and this is a cash game, make sure they tip. LOL

In the home game i play at, we use 2 decks. The person behind the dealer shuffles a deck while the dealer is dealing out the hand. Once the hand is over, a shuffled deck is ready to go for the person to the left to deal next. The person that just dealt now shuffles the deck that was just played out with to give to the next dealer. I find this process speeds up the game a bit, because there is always a deck ready to go instead of having to wait on someone to shuffle the deck. Confused yet?

gf, i got plenty of thanks but no tip, like they say 'talks cheap' lol

soadwes, good idea, if only the players would pay attention and not have to be constantly reminded as to whose go it is and what the bet is things could really speed up lol

i might do a post on the annoying things players do when you are dealing for them

If there is a mechanic in the game this is the Worst.Idea.Ever. Well, a mechanic thats willing to cheat anyway...

Use KEM or Copag cards (which are plastic and resist marking) and try to have one dedicated dealer that gets a house "take" for their work and tips as well. Usually not a bad deal for a friend that's broke, terrible player, etc.
