Shove-a-ments are sweeping the nation!

Sunday night I played a home game with 6 other people. It was dealers choice (which I hate) and because I can't stand switching games every single hand I figured I'd call a Shove-a-ment when it was my deal.
Everyone looked at me like I was looney but they all agreed to play.
Only one guy went all-in before it was my turn. He had about $3.50 left and the rest of us were pretty o.k. as far as chips so I think he figured it was this best chance to double his money.
Unfortunately for him I looked down to see pocket 10's so I called with no hesitation. I was pretty well sloshed by then so I'm not sure what he had....I think it was Ace or King high and my 10's held up.
The rest of the night was a downer for me.... I just don't like switching games each and every single fricking hand. It makes it harder for me to get a read on anyone since everyone just limps into every pot and you can't tell WTF they are doing......

I eventually got fed up and even more intoxicated so I just started shoving almost every hand.....
I did triple up when I pushed all-in Preflop for $11.50 without looking at my cards and got 2 callers.
I was dealt a 5/7 offsuit and flopped 4/6/8 for the straight.
That's when I should have left but of course all that really did was make me think I could get it all back.
Eventually I busted out when I pushed all-in when I caught 2 pair on the river only to see my friend had made a full boat on the turn. :(

Anyway the moral of the story is: Leave before you get too drunk

Have a great day everyone!

Freak, an idea we have used for dealer's choice is that who ever calls the game, that game is then played for the entire orbit +1. The game starts with the person who called the game, each person will also deal that game and when it comes back to the person who called the game, they deal the game the last time. When that game is complete the next person to deal calls the game and it continues like that.

So, if there were 6 ppl and you started dealing and called hold'em, you would deal hold 'em, the other 5 would also deal hold'em and when it got back to you again you would deal hold 'em. The next person to deal could then call his/her game and it would be done the same way. Basically who ever calls the game deals it twice before the game switches.

All-in or fold.....no checking, calling, nada..... just all-in or fold.

good post gord..This exact situation came about last night in our home game.. We had decided to play dealers choice because Hold Em is getting really really old with our crew..We want to be more well rounded poker players instead of just becoming proficient in one type of game.. We were having a problem deciding how to play it in case a player called a game such as Stud which doesn't have blinds..My father suggested exactly what you described and it worked perfectly.. I really recommend this type of format if you are going to play Dealers Choice.. And obviously don't let anyone call any wild card games because the skill factor goes right out the window!
