Limit HE Q's

On my most recent trip to Vegas I discovered limit HE, so when I got home I decided to try it online. I've been playing on bodog and I could use some pointers. I'm playing $.05/$.10 right now and it appears as though there is not much difference between $.05/$.10 online and $2/$4 in the casino. Tell me if I'm wrong here but limit pretty much equals "throw everything against a wall and see what sticks?" I'll raise PF with A10s or something decent, raise with an A on the flop and end up being beat when a 2-4 flop/river and someone plays with a 2-4 off (even with the PF raise) [this actually happended live and online - live 5/6, OL 2/4]. This is just one example of many. So, is limit basically cross your fingers and hope for the best or is there advice I can follow?

yep pretty much ,at least based off my experiences. Once you move up in higher limits, i think it not as bad

You kind of have to scope out quality players (meaning players who don't play 72o PF) then try them out. Or really tight players. Limit is a game of Check-Raises, and its all about playing the Top 10 hands in Hold'em.

Why do we want to scope them out? How can playing better opponents ever be more profitable?

The Key to limit is taking notes. I recommend getting pokertracker and pokerace. When I sit down at a limit game I only play big pairs and AK for the first 30 hands. After 25 hands my pokerace kicks in and gives me the stats that help me make educated decisions. The entire time I play I make notes on each player and what they do when they have certain hands. Limit isn't about "throw it all up against a wall and see what sticks" it is about making correct decisions and making 1BB/hr.

I find that the lowest limits (.02/.04, .05/.10) really are crap shoots as you described, loads of people seeing flops and pretty much playing ATC and hoping it sticks. You only have a very marginal chance of profiting when it is like this even if just playing premiums. I found the .10/.20 and .25/.50 level to be more sensible (=readable). My take on limit is to be (very) patient, play very few hands and pick your spots. I am mainly playing this for bonus clearing and was just planning to play break even poker (the bonus would be the profit if this were the case) but have ended up turning out a small profit on top as well.

I find that I do pretty well in a live FLHE game at a casino, playing 5-10. It's really important to bet for value when you're playing solid hands and are pretty sure that you have the best-of-it. If someone sucks out on you, you just get right back and hope that a similar situation and try to have the odds in your favour come out that way.

It's very true that you have to be extra patient in limit and that it may seem that you're betting with one hand while your other hand is crossing-fingers, hoping that someone doesn't catch miracle cards on you or are holding a huge monster in the hole. I agree, also that check-raising is a big part of limit, especially if you're trying to build the pot, or if you have to make someone think about calling $20 as opposed to a $10 bet on the turn/river.

I haven't played limit all that much online, however. Nonetheless, I'm sure, as is the case to NL, that the lower limits you do play on, the more chasers you will find. Probably to an even greater extent in a limit game. I remember one time a long time ago, when I was just learning the online game, I was playing on PokerRoom and I entered an SnG tournament - thinking it was NL but was really a Limit game. Was so totally thrown-off when it started, but made out alright cashing in on the tourney. Should definitely hit that up again when I'm on PokerRoom or any online site...this time actually playing Limit on purpose though!

When I first started playing in the casino's I played at a 2/4 limit table, and quickly realized that you can have the best hand and bet the pot and raise the pot but someone is always going to call you and chase. I quickly tired of this and will not go near a limit table, there are people who do their best at a limit table but it's just not my game. I prefer no limit simply for the fact that I can bet someone off of a draw or chase. I would have to agree with some eaarlier responses that if you play limit you have to have patience and only play premium hands until you get some definate reads on people.
