Knowing You're Beat

What do you do knowing you're beat in this situation

You have committed say 3/4 your chips in a pot. It is you and another player. You have the perfect reads on this player. You have 2 pair and you know that he is chasing. The river card gives both a 4 card flush draw and str8 draw on the board. He bets just 1 or 2X BB. You know he made one or the other. Do you bet knowing he made it for the minimum bet on the offhand chance he didn't, or do you fold conceding the hand and losing all those chips without seeing the hand?

I didn't vote because I have done both.
It always depends on what mood I am in and how my hands are holding up. Usually if my hands are holding I will go ahead and call on the outside chance he didn't hit. (small price to pay since you already have around 3/4 of your stack in there) If he did hit, time to try to rebuild it.

If I had 3/4 of my chips in a pot with a straight and flush draw before the river, that's a bad situation to be in. If the draw was on flop and I had two pair, I would push all in. Same if the draw was on the turn.

You have a PERFECT read and know your beat. Fold

What TB said. If you know you're beat, then you should fold. There's no reason to put chips into a pot that you know isn't going to be yours.

If you were almost sure you're beat, but the pot odds were large enough for you to call, well then that's a different story.

it`s all about the mood...the sensation... if you think there`s any luck...then do what you feel best

UGH!!! Like Tina,I have done both...Its a very tough call...I don't think you mentioned whether this is a tourney,heads up,or a ring game...A tourney I'd have to look at how far I am into the tourney,and whether losing this hand will make it impossible to remain in it,heads up,I'd probably fold it...ring game,I'd call.......I don't have any real valid "textbook" reasons why I would do any of the above...But then again,what do I know about poker!??

Depends how big the blinds are in relation to your stack. If the blind is 400 and you only have 500 left, and you have an incredibly good read, fold it. If the blind is 20 and your stack is 500, call. Anything else is somewhere in between.....

If I know im beat 100% Ill lay it down. Better to keep extra chips then to give it away. Now if im not really sure he has it or think its a possible bluff, i call just to see the cards and get a read.

If ever you know your beat - fold, the only reason to put more chips in is because you dont want to play any more

I would have to say it depends on mood. Do you feel like continuing on playing with practically no stack left, or would you rather go take a shower?

If the size of the pot is xbb and it's 1bb to call.

In order to decide whether or not to call you have to decide if the chance of you being ahead is better than 1/xbb

If it is you call if not you fold.

For example if the pot is 200 and it's 10 to call then if you think there is a 10/200 or 1/20 chance of you being ahead then you call.

That's if it's treated as a pure ev decision, in tournies it can be a bit more complex.


To be honest if I'm getting much more than 10 to 1 on any call, I figure there's at least that chance the other guy is flat out bluffing and call and long the long run take care of it.

Damn, the Tman had Rosie O'Donnel right in front of him & he didn't pop her. Bummer.

If you know you are beat (missed draw) but feel that your opponent is weak then betting is the only chance to win the hand. Betting into the nuts is just foolish of course and none of us need to spew chips to reward our "egos".

You can't bluff people off of pots too often but with a good table image you can add to your win rate if you use the move infrequently.

What i do in this situation all depends on the other player.... most likely fold.. but if u've been only callin and winnin.. he may read u wrong and fold to ur all in..thinkin u arent willing to put up all ur chips... for the most part fold but there's always that one player u can make the risky call against and pay off

In a tourney, if the blinds are low, I look him up anyway. That should be the 3rd option.

i voted to call, but only depending on blind size, and whether i had an almost-perfect read on him/her, and not a perfect read(is there such a thing???)
There's always the off-chance of someone calling with overcards, ie AK, or whatever, hoping to pick up and A or K by the river.
Sometimes you have to take huge risks, get lucky big time to win a tourney.
