Is it Lucrative to play in tourneys only???

I was wonder, if anyone only plays in tourneys and never ring games online. I love tourneys online..and I do well in them and I seem to be getting better. Sometimes I take money to the no limit tables..get too ambitious, and lose a wad. I don't seem to have the patience to sit and grind it out on cash tables, yet strangely enuff I do have the patience to grind it out at online tourneys. So my question is it worthwhile to only play in tourneys??

Yea its hard for me to play online ring games, unless it is the higher limits, which my BR cannot back right now, but I don't like staying in long MTT's for ever either. Single table SNG's seem to be my happy medium.

I think the answer is affirmative.You find online that there are some big guys who earn big money through playing tourny.Their roi (return of investment) are better than 30%.
I think there are big difference between cash game and tourny.People must choose one to master.And both will let you make money.

Not to be silly, but if you can WIN--then the answer is a resounding yes

You can become a multi-millioniare playing only MTTs

Many successful Pros are Tourny Only players (or made all of their money playing MTTs and LOST a lot of it playing CASH)

Men the Master, Phil Helmuth are just two examples of great tourny players who are known for giving it away at the cash games
ADD TJ Cloutier if you include guys who win at MTTs then give it away at the Craps Table or other gambling

Of course it is!
Look at Phil Hellmuth for example....
If you like them and are good at them just play them!
Do not play games you do not like. You will not do good at them!

If you like tourneys and do all right in them then play.
If you like cash games and do all right in them then play.
If you like sit-n-gos and do all right in them then play.
If you like holdem and do all right in them then play.
If you like Omaha and do all right in them then play.
and on
and on
But play more in those where you are most successful.(it's OK if only one)
And remember bankroll management.
If you don't like them or don't do all right then don't play.

Of course you can earn good money playing tourneys, alot of internet pros do. It is very rare to see someone who is a class act in both, Phil Helmuth is a donk at cash, whereas Phil Ivey can destroy both, but he's still better at cash. what works for you, works, so go with it. i'm so bad at cash it almost isn't worth it for me, but i love tourneys. I think the difference in grindong tourneys/cash, is with tourneys you knwo it's gonna get exciting. It's gonna kick off later with big blinds and all-ins, where as cash is the long struggle to stay +ev.

i like the yournys mostly . do play some ring games but if im going to play a cash game i like to do it in a live setting.

nice thing abiut tournys is it only takes 1 top 3 finnish to bump up ur bankroll

With MTTs you just have to make sure you follow the bankroll management rules. If you cash first place in a guarenteed tournament more than likely you will be paid over 100 times your initial investment. But then again it may be another 100 MTTs before you win one again. I've cashed in quite a few MTTs, but I haven't gotten top 3 in any....so my bankroll hasn't really increased too much due to MTTs. They are definately a "go big or go home" kinda thing. Just making the money doesn't really do much, you gotta go for the win.

Well there is 2 things i have learn playing online poker....

If you are starting off with a rather small bankroll, then i would say grind out the tournaments.... People tend to play more for tournament position and ranking, so you'll get about 35% more serious players which will help advance you level of game play. Its also a proven fact that if you are working towards a goal and can see how close that goal is , you will play harder to obtain that goal,

Now as for Cash games ( ring tables ) its a whole diffrent game, If you go for the micro tables .02/.04, then you will have to stay on your toes and get your money in with the good odds and you'll pull some $$$ easily, Lots in the micro games tend to push harder with marginal hands to try and buy alot of the blinds and whatnot... Sometimes there is alot of easy money at the micro tables for an "Expert Fisherman" Just gotta stay on your toes...

As far as the higher Cash games, I know nothing....I am not a big fan of playing with large amounts of $$$ on the internet, I keep things low and simple.

But for me i Like to play more tournaments than cash games, There are times though i will go into a micro .02/.04 and bring around .50-$1 to the table. if i play tight and stay on my toes i can triple up real Easily while i wait for my tournaments to start....

1 Majior Tip for cash games:::::Always Before Entering any limit Cash game.... Decide what you can handle to lose from your bankroll, should be never around more than 2% of your total bankroll.... And ALWAYS Stick to your limit....your bankroll will thank you if you have a bad seating at a cash game..

Stick to what you are best at, or play low stake ring games, i have the same problem but sometimes just cant help myself and play ring games and end up with nothing lol.
Play mtt s and freerolls and do pretty well.

It really just depends on which you are most comfortable playing. If you are comfortable playing tournaments then you should stick with that and build up a bankroll doing that. I started off as a successful tournament player and found the transition to cash easier after having had success in the tournaments.

im going to start only playing MTT's in july

i think so. i agree with you. For some reason i cannot sit at a ring game but i have far more patience at mtts.

It depends if you like to play tournement!
I do not play cash game. Just MTT´s or SnG.
Cause i do not like cash game.
If you do not like something you will probably not be very good at it....

Yes, but it involves a different mindset. Variance hits you in different ways in tournies vs. cash games; first of all, in a cash game you probably won't go long stretches without any success (i.e., winning a decent pot), but the swings to your bankroll can be brutal. On the other hand, in tournaments there's a bit less variance because you know exactly how much you're probably going to lose when you buy in, but it can be a long time before you see success at your true ROI.

i think i play ring game on occasions, but i always stick to sngs and mtts because i make more profit that way, but its different for other people. just stick to what feels best

If it works for you than theres your sign.I do better at mtts and only hit ring games when trying to get enough to join a tourney ,double up and get out of dodge is my rule or i will seem to give it all away.If you watch poker after dark you will see some pros who do well in tournies not do as good in the cash game.

MTT'S are great and you can make a great deal of money, but you have to set aside so much time. With the late registrations in MTT's, you never know how many players will end up in the tourney and how long you will have to play. Even some of the larger buy in's end up with a lot of players and long hours of play. Great for the final prize fund, but plan on spending a lot of time playing.

I think playing only tourneys is a great idea cause i can usually never do good in ring games.
