--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was very surprised to find out that we had to play 15 1/2 hours on the first day. I made it through but now I see why so many players get massages during their play. My neck was aching from sitting there and holding my arms in a particular position.
You may know that there were three first days and that the plan was to get each day down from 200 tables, to 65. It took the guys from day 1 15 1/2 hours to get there. I played on the second first day, and although we got down to 65 tables after 14 hours, we had to continue playing the same amount of time. We finally got to 62 tables. Day three had to do the same time.
I was 570 in chip stack rank after day one, but after four hours into day two, I was knocked out. I placed 969. No money for that. No handshake. You get up from the table and slink away.
It was fun though. BUT, be prepared to play 15 hours of poker!

Hehe. Very nice citytom. Is still a dream of mine to play in the Main Event :D But it's a long day, I agree with that. You should have taken your girlfriend or friend (depends if you a female or male hehe) for massages!

Just out of curiosity, did you buy in for the $10k yourself, or did you win a seat through a qualifying event? To my knowledge, you're the only person frequenting CardsChat who participated in the '05 Main Event. A detailed account of your experience would be interesting. Perhaps you could work up something, as you have time, and forward it to webmaster Nick for posting in the "Articles" section?

I paid my way into the 7 events I played in.

I played with a number of known Pros through that period. They include Juha from finland, Devilfish, Mel Judah, Steve Z, Tomko, Dan Harrington, Dutch Boyd, Hellmuth, and several others I didn't know the name of. Also sat at a table with James Woods for four hours. He's a sociable guy, and came across as very intelligent.

Hellmuth was the only person I had any tiffs with. He said I made a string bet, called the floor over, got someone else involved, and basically made a stink over nothing. There was no string bet. He finally said something like, "Hey, I'm over here listening to my ipod....I'm not even in the hand". I don't know if he was playing a game on me, mistaken, or .....uh, he's an ***hole.

The biggest heartbreaker for me was the $1,060 buy in MegaSatellite. There were 425 players paying $10,000 to the last 42 remaining. I was 45th and put there with a bad beat after eight hours of play.

My lucky hand was the first event I played, the $1,000 w/ rebuys (and I saw several guys buy 8-9 times. About 7 hands in I called an All-in preflop w/ QQ.
And then Juha, to my left, also called. The other two turned over AA, and KK. I was digging for my $1,000 to rebuy, as a Q came on the flop. I tripled up.

Thanks for the info. Fascinating. You are moving in a different stratosphere than most of us here, my friend. Enjoy.

Hey CityTom how much did you spend on this venture that I hope one day I can endure! And also did you make any money at the tables in the other events???

The first event was a $1,000 w/ rebuys at $1,000 a pop. I didn't get any. At the end of the third level, rebuys were cut off, but you could buy two at the end no matter what chip stack size. I was sitting about halfway before the onrush of everybody buying two. I resisted....but lost.

Then there were two Mega Satellites at $1,000 a pop. One I got to three from the money (I felt like jumping out the window). That would have been $10K. I got a bad beat. The most expensive one I've experienced. The other I was out in an hour.

Then the Main Event at $10,000.
After that there was a $1,500, $1,000 and another $1,000 freezout.
In between all that I wanted to take a look at the new poker rooms in Vegas since my last visit there in January. I played at the Wynn, MGM, Palace Station, and Stratosphere. And some cash games at the Rio. Out of all the side action I was up a couple of hundred dollars.
