Self control the one thing a player can decide is how much they are going to lose and when they are going to lose it take a break play when feel better mentally and physically the games will probably still be there later.

Every serious poker player should have a set amount of buy ins he is willing to loose that day. If he goes through them he should have the discipline to leave the table , Go to a club or the movies.

It's all about self discipline, not giving into your urges and emotions and just overall avoid the tilt.

I guess it depends on how you lose.

There have been times when I was playing and I could feel myself playing impatiently and sort of forcing the game. It was easy to get up and go do something else for a while and come back later when I was ready to play quality poker.

There have also been times when I have lost several buy-ins before finally being able to tear myself away from the game. On those occasions I suffered horrible beats. Like playing something like A-K and flopping top pair, against some donkey who plays J-2 and flops a pair of deuces, then goes all-in, only to catch a Jack to make two pair on the river.

When I lose in that manner it's hard to leave the game for multiple reasons. One, I hate to let some donkey who plays like that get away with my money. Two, I know that I didn't misplay my hand, so I feel like if I shake it off and continue to play my game, I'll be able to make it back. And three, we're always told that you want to be in a game with bad players. So when you have players at the table throwing their chips around like zoo monkeys throwing their shit, that's the game that you want to be in. Right?

I once lost three buy-ins at a $200NL game in under 20 minutes. I just couldn't let donkey fart keep my money. I spent the next six hours at that table getting back to even. I got one buy in back from the zoo monkey before someone else felted him, then spent the next five hours or so playing with the second guy as other players came and went. At the end of it my back felt like someone had hit me in the spine with a sledge hammer. I had an excruciating headache. My face and torso was covered with a sticky sheen and I'm sure I smelled like flop sweat. But I left the table up $5.

And I thought it was easier to leave after losing. Another time when you won and continue to play until you lost everything. This is where control is needed. And no one will help you with control itself, it’s the very knowledge of a person how he is configured.

Sometimes I suffer from the same problem, but I try to overcome it by finding a way to confront the feelings that we feel. For example, during winning, we feel overwhelmed with joy and here we take play as a profession and this is a mistake, but it is a hobby, but the loss causes us severe pressure, so you have to face these feelings professionally. In a sense, you have to overcome these feelings.

you have to set a loosing target ,when you reach it ,its not your day give up and comeback other time .or you will loose all your money cause if you don't obey your own rules that means you lost control .

The answer to your first question is simple: you are experiencing a gambling problem. Not everyone is like you, even though if you look around in a casino, most people will be like you. That's because casinos are the gathering place for people with gambling problems.

A similar situation happens in bars. Most people drinking in a bar would have a hard time walking away after only one beer, even though in the real World, there are plenty of people capable of doing just that.

The answer to the second question is vastly more complicated, because gambling issues (like the urge to continue playing in an attempt to make up for your losses) are deeply embedded into your personality aka subconscious mind, and it's virtually impossible to will yourself into poker discipline.

So with the problem you're facing, my advice to you is to stick to freerolls, play money tables, and the lowest of the microstakes where losses are easily manageable, and forget about being a consistently winning player because the odds are stacked against you. If that's not an option, then go to the casino with only the amount you're willing to lose in your pocket, make small online deposits so there isn't more to lose than you can afford, try hypnosis or self hypnosis.

No, always set a limit and never go beyond that limit. I won't chase money after I lose ..

It is a very personal matter. If the person does not have self-control, it is best to use predefined daily loss limits. I believe it works

Join a freeroll and go all in every hand. Pretty soon you are in a better mindset and ready to rock again.

Sometimes a very tight bankroll and settings limits on your deposits can work because if you keep going your BR on that site will dwindle and you'll be restricted from depositing more - so it can make it a little easier to walk away, have a coffee (or your preference), watch some TV a film or a sports game, then come back once you've relaxed.

Take up meditation/mindfulness to help you control your emotions when you feel you are going on tilt.

Learn to accept that loos is part of poker and if you are 'chasing' your losses - you are not playing poker for the enjoyment of the game but to 'gamble'. I see poker as a game like chess, or what-have-you; and try not to see it as 'money'. The latter can lead you to the gamblers need to 'win it back' mentality. But if I play chess, monopoly, or even snap with my family, I don't - see the difference?

This was crystal clear, so keep playing if i know i played right.

I see that taking a loss personally and start a poker fight against "fish" who can play all-in with J2 is too risky and stressful especially when he get lucky and win again "unfairly".

This kind of revenge need high level of stress control.

If you can’t stop and you tried it doesn’t work, then you will leave then when you lose everything. Therefore, self-control is needed.

This is a learned skill. Like with any skill it needs to be practiced until it becomes automatic.

A better question is how and when to leave when you are having a winning session. I've seen so many players get this wrong. They win a huge pot in a cash game and vanish. Why? It makes no sense to me at all. They're chicken. You need to learn how to cut your losses and leave a session a loser, that is true. But if you are winning at a table, why would you ever leave?

Hi mate. One of first things a poker player should learn is bankroll management..Stop playing and take a break in those situations and you could play more freerolls instead.Good luck and patience!

My reaction to losing is to shut everything down and only come back after the anger is gone. So I never had this problem of losing and wanting to continue until I recovered.

Something isn't working right for you at that table that day.

Remind yourself that you love yourself and leave that table.

You don't "need" to figure out why you're losing at that table. That is an academic matter.

Just love yourself enough to leave.

Good luck !
