I've been thinking about playing at Carbon. I have yet to open an account, though I know many of you play there. I would like to play the CC freerolls there and just wanted to find out what you like/dislike about it.

One plus is that they give RB direct to their players. I have yet to deposit but it is on my list of things to do so I can collect a bonus and start to receive my RB from them.

One thing I have heard a lot here is that getting paid takes a long time. I have no experience with this but others have said this is the case.

Carbon/Merge is a good network and definitely worth checking out. The software is a bit too cutesy for some, but they have a decent choice of tournaments and a good player base now the network has expanded.

I've heard the ring games and SNGs at the higher levels can be slow to fill - so that's a bit of a drawback if that's the area you play in.

I use Moneybookers and neteller. The withdrawals aren't lightning fast but they usually come through in a few days.

One of the downfalls of playing at Carbon is that you can not transfer to another playing for 3 weeks after your first deposit, not sure if they switched it but it used to be this way. I had a problem with cashing out my first time so I never went back but I never heard of many problems coming from this. I think you should try out the site for awhile and see for yourself not every site is for everyone.

My fav. part were the initial depositor freerolls. They give you a maximum of 14 free roll tourneys (one each day for two weeks) just for depositing. When I first joined, each tournament ran only about 150-170 players deep. Top 20 cash.

I was able to play in 9 of them and made the final table 3 times, making $70 total. I failed to cash in my last 5 tries, which was disappointing, but that's $70 for free just for making a deposit.

The players are mostly crappy. You have your share of maniacs and calling stations. Basically folks will call your 3 bet preflop shove with hands like K9 and A10. It's maddening when people call ya with junk and beat you, but over the long run you'll be in the green.

It doesn't cost a dime to open an account. I never made a deposit, never play there for money except for the very occasional CC buy-in, and have built a nice bankroll from freerolls.

Thanks for all this guys. How are the freerolls?

They are excellent. Used to be $50. A couple months ago, they raised them to $200, but paid only 10 spots. I played the Badugi yesterday, and noticed they just changed it to 20 spots. They had less than 1800 registered too. NLHE may get more, but the freerolls never fill up (5000). Not sure about NLHE. I play anything but that, and there are rarely more than 2500 in them. The freerolls are varied games, and also fairly frequent.

$200. Only bodog is more generous, but that's just once or twice a day.

I noticed that the traffic is steady throughout the day, which is good if you play sit and gos so you don't have to wait much time after registering before it fills up.
As far as the freerolls I think they should split the prizepool between more tournaments so to cover more timezones even if this would make them less attractive.

Where are you located? Anyway, they have freerolls all day long. Never more than 4 hours between each. In fact, they have many just 1 hour apart. 11:15 AM & 12:15 PM. Then 19:15, 20:15, 21:15 EST. These are all one hour after Daylight Savings time, but may not pertain to you. They also have freerolls at 04:15 & 8:15 AM, and 4:15 & 8:15 PM. Don't know what more you can ask for.

I recently started playing Carbon. I think they have the best software now, and that $200 free roll is every 4 hours.

I meant the 100$ private freeroll which I can never play. The others are too lenghtly and I usually don't play them either. And they pay too deep.

I like playing at carbon.

Looking at my HEM stats I reach ITM 31% compared to 25% at FT.

So either I suck at FT or carbon is softer.

A drawback I see is that the HH is crappy - but if you use HEM or PT that's a non-issue anyway.

Gotcha. Don't know where you are, but most American probably can't play then either, as they are working. Most can do the Saturday and Tuesday. CC does spread the times around though. All 3 can never be perfect for everyone, unless you are unemployed and never sleep. :p

the main problem i see with carbon is the loyalty perks - you have to clear a 5000 point hurdle before you get rewards...ps+ft have monthly rewards

Thanks guys- I did it. I signed up and played a freeroll last night and the CC freeroll today(thanks,DiveBitch, for calling with your flush draw and ending my first one). I do like it, though the numbers for the stack sizes could have been made a little bigger...I might just make it my freeroll site and try to make millions with not depositing.

If you want a check, it takes like 4 or 5 weeks to get one, plus you lose any pending poker bonus after withdrawing. I use ewalletexpress, but they take like a 10% fee. At least I can use that as a tax write-off.

Carbon is a pretty good site. I've been playing there for about a year. There are also a couple of other good alternatives on the Merge network.

Multi-tabling is kind of hard because the software is nowhere close to that of FTP or PS.

I've actually been working on a hotkeys program for all merge sites for a while (trying to make multitabling easier). Feel free to check it out: www.runbetterpoker.com It's free, but donations are always gladly accepted.

Shoot me an email if you have any questions.

You are playing in the initial depositor $200 freeroll right? Those are great. Field is manageable. It was around 160 when I played them. They are much easier to cash than the regular freerolls and don’t take as long.

I wish I could have another crack at them. I made it to the final table 3 straight times in my first 4 tries and thought it was easy (6th, 6th, 7th). Then failed to even make it past #40 the next 5 times. Looking back, I could have been more patient at the final table. Went out on coinflips with marginal hands each time. Wish I could have won one of those flips.
