i am new to this forum and was just looking for a small piece of advice in my home game we usually have around 6 people playing and its fairly laid back but we are uptight on cheating (as anyone wouldbe) but the thing is our home games are very loose and there is me and one of my friends who are much better players and usually take all the money available. The thing is i do not like their style of play as it is very loose and passive and they will draw to near impossible draws all the time even when i amraising then resaing. has anyone got any advice on how i can shut them out of pots or stop them drawing to ridiculas odds? feedback would be helpful

You probably won't be able to. It sounds like they're playing for fun, and so, don't really care if they bust out. Maybe if you raised the stakes...but who knows?

We have some friends (they are husband and wife) who have played at a couple of our home games. They have no clue what they're doing, and call down ANYTHING. And are two lucky mo-fo's. We don't invite them anymore. :p

Well, actually, you should be happy that you are playing against such loose players. The reason being is because, if they are calling your bets/raises with bad odds, they will lose money in the long run. They might catch their card and beat you or they might get a hot streak going, but in the long run you will come out on top.

Say your opponent is chasing a 1 outter. I think its 22 : 1 that they will hit their hand on the river. So, mathmatically you will win 22/23 times this hand plays out and they will win 1/23 times.

Against players like these, i try to keep the pot small if I have a good hand, but not the nuts. Say I'm holding KK and its an overpair to the board, but ther are 2 suits showing. My opponent is a call station and will call any draw; I believe he has a flush draw. Well, knowing that he'll call anything, it would be foolish of me to overbet the pot because if he catches, I have to slow down my betting/let my hand go. So, the best thing to do is bet out small, but still giving him improper odds to chase. Usually half pot or a little over is just enough. In the long run, i'll still make money.

However if you do flop the nuts, then you want to get as much money as you can in there against loose players because they will pay you off.

Also, the stakes you play at your home game is a big factor. You said its laid back and it should be treated that way. Small stakes, easy going atmosphere, friends having a good time, etc...you can expect loose play from players because its likely they are treating as just fun. Play $5 home games with .1/.2 blinds and its very loose. Play $100 with .5/1 blinds and its a lot different...usually.

I have the same probs at one of my local games. And what will probably end up happening is these guys will get tired of losing and learn how to play the game atleast thats what happened at my game. So enjoy the cash cow while it last. Just remember, luck on wins in the short term, skill will always prevail:D

You just have to remember a few simple rules when playing players that dont have a clue about poker.

1. Play ABC poker
2. You can never bluff a donkey (this includes just getting people out of posts like you said your trying to do)

You will run into this problem in any low stakes games also. Ether people are there to have fun and dont care so they just call. Or the friends or strangers your playing poker with dont have a clue. The trick is to be aware of this and dont get caught in a hand with 5 people that will call with anything. 5 Bad hands= 1 good hand otherwise known as schooling.
