Home game money to chips ideas

If you have home games for cash, how do you decide how many chips and how much start with, and how much each chip is worth? (Mine have skulls and amounts from 5$ to 5,000 on them-I won a kick-err a good set...)

Most of the time we only play for bragging rights, or winner gets dinner bought, or something, mainly cause we can't afford the real numbers on the chips, and becaue it is easier. Then we load up on chips and enjoy 'rebuys' for the early outs...(k so I am not playing with pros here!)

But we have had a few requests for real cash..so..how do I do that, while keeping the cost to a minimum? (not that I wouldn't mind winning a fortune .)

Hmmm...

If your chips are multi-colored, then you could ignore the denominations on them and assign an amount to each color. Let's say $0.25 for the greatest amount of one color, $0.50 for the next, and $1.00 for the chips that have the smallest amount of one color.

We have a nice 11.5g chip set without denominations on them. We just divy them up equally between players and have a SNG style game. Usually a $20-$40 buy-in, winner take all. In this case we do the chip value tournament style (10, 25, 50 or 100 - whatever is decided upon) and the blinds go up every 15-20 minutes (we set a timer). We usually don't do rebuys, mainly because we don't have enough chips.

Wow. This just made me realize that we haven't had a game for a long, long time. You're making me want to invite my friends and family over so that I can separate them from their hard earned $$.

so umm....what is SNG style?

basically play it like a tournament that just has one table (or however many people you play with). follow the blind structure that sammy outlined, and the one with all the chips at the end wins. some people play winner take all, some divide the money into fisrt and second or third place.

sng stands for sit 'n go, which is basically a tournament with a few tables or so.

I guess I should explain the chart somewhat! The Blind levels on the side could be changed to any amount of time! Currently we use 10 minutes and 5 minutes for the 2 levels! We get 2 games in, in about 5 hours.

The lower right is the amount paid for $20 entry! We pay top 3 for all our games! Even with only 5 players in the game. The way we all look at it is we are there to learn, so why not spread the money around a little bit! Most people I know on here don't agree with me. They like the winner take all type, but to each his/her own! So with 8 players in the game the payouts would be 1st= $100 2nd= $40 3rd= $20. See it on the chart?

If after you have divided up all the chips equally there are any left over, maybe you could add them to the first pot to get things going nicely.

What we do for our home games is $20 buy in, you get $20 in chips - white = $.25, red = $.50, blue = $1.00 and green = $2. We work the game as a .25/.50 cash table and when the game is over, how much you have in front of you is how much cash you get back.
