Well...with relation to MTTs what happens when you bust? Is it usually because you're shortstacked or because you make a silly move and lose your stack?

As for your tilt, well that's something you have to learn to control yourself. I can't give you a tip that will cure your tilt; you have to learn self control and discipline on your own.

Usually in MTT's you need to write down each major hand you run into.

It seems a little anal, but if you keep notes on any big wins/losses in the tournament you will see the pattern that leads to your demise/success.

Normally I dont build up to a big stack and lose it all at once. I lose a few medium pots, and then bust out, or lose a few races and push too hard with AK and miss and try to buy the pot and lose.

etc, etc.

MTT's are brutal. I do best at them when Im at work and barely paying attention. I play on Party and unless you are moved up to a low table # you wont be with the guys often enough to get a great read (sometimes yes sometimes no)

Give us a few hands that you bustd out with. If you take a bad beat/coinflip when you are short stacked, there is no way around that. You have to play your hands to win at a MTT, and to penetrate deep you need to have your good hands hold up.

Look at this:

As for TILTING, it's something in your head! You have to forget about it. Here is something you can try. When you get a bad beat that usually puts you on tilt, the next (rags) hand, let the timer run down to fold you.

Cross your arms with your hands "OFF" the mouse, take some deep breaths, and relax. It can work wonders! There is no reason to play "bad" just because u got sucked out on!

There is ALWAYS a chance you can come back and win! ALWAYS!!

Do you keep track of how many BB's your stack is?

1) Don't chase cards. That's how everyone else makes their money/takes the lead.

2) Don't feel pressured to double up. If you start getting low, take stands preflop with good starting hands, and hope to take down the blinds. Unless you have some hungry big stacks at the table everyone else will be tightening up and less likely to risk losing a large chunk with a moderate hand.

The best lesson I learned is don't feel pressured by the blinds, but be aware of them, and use it to your advantage. Pay attention to people who are tight and pick on them, and run if they call and you dont flop big :)

sorry rambling, a little tired, just trying to dump some information out there.

The reason I asked is because I'm not sure if you were playing too tight or too loose. In MTTs, you have to switch gears and start getting generally more aggressive during the middle and later stages of the game. Though of course if you get too loose, then you start getting trapped for large portions of your chip stack.

It sounds to me like you might be playing a bit too loose though. I employ a very tight, aggressive game early on - playing only premium hands, and playing them VERY hard. Then later on, I start to loosten up and steal blinds and pots with a looser style.

My suggestion for you is to read the first Harrington on Holdem book if you want to get serious and start winning in MTTs. If you don't have the $20 or $30 to spend, then I suggest reading and analyzing the info in the strategy and the hand history sections of cardschat. Search "MTT strategy" and you'll definitely find some nice threads with great info in them. Lots of stuff has been posted before, so I don't want to go on repeating it when it's just a click away for you.
