0.25/0.50 NL HE table

Has two players who raise $3/4 PF, then raise loads, sometimes all in to steal the pot, and me not calling as i have nothing. Then...

:jc4: :10s4: my cards

Flop: :4h4: :7d4: :2h4:
Guy raises a dollar and i call

Turn: :js4:
I bet quite big, around $4

River: :jd4:
I try checking because he raise all the time, absolutely stupid amounts to steal pots --> He raises $24 and i go all in $28, he calls, I win a massive pot.
Just had to tell someone. They had been screwing me over quite well until this stupid ass play by him. Lesson: If Some clear idiot is using his stupidity to take pots, remember they can be taken down if you wait. Almost an hour hes been doing this, gradually wearing me down, and one hand has doubled what i came to the table with and crippled him.

LOL yesssss

Congrats woodsy

The types of tables I always look for are the ones with small/medium stacks who are maniacs.
Very profitable; all you have to do is trap them with premium hands, and the cards do the rest :)

the thing that made me laugh my arse off when he raised the $24, was that i had represented a J on the turn, with the big raise...the check on the river must really have fooled him lol

PS - i have just found another table like this...yay

I love playing guys like that, all you have to do is be patient and wait for a strong hand and they will pay you off every time. I won 3 big pots today on the NL $0.10/$0.25 tables because of some very loose play by other players.

The first hand I made the nut straight on the river, i bet a small amount, something like 1/3 of the pot. The guy thinks about it for a while and then pushes all in, it was beautifull. I won $22.75 in that pot.

In the second hand I limped in with A5 diamonds and flopped an inside straight draw, board is 394 with one diamond. villain1 bets 0.50 and I call, villain2 raises to 1.50, villain1 and myself both call. the turn brings a 6d which gives me an open ended straight draw and the nut flush draw. villain1 checks and so do I(maybe should have bet here), villain2 thinks for a second then pushes all in. villain1 quickly calls and i'm left with a decision. I decided to gamble, the pot was pretty big and I had lots of ways to win. the river brings a Jd, i make my flush and take down a pot worth $24.

The 3rd hand was only a couple after the 2nd. I was dealt A2 clubs in the SB, the action is folded round to the guy just off the button who raises to 0.75. I call the 0.65, I had just doubled up and I felt that i could afford to see a flop with these cards and hopefully flop another big hand. The BB(villain2 from the previous hand) also calls the raise. the flop comes KJ9 with 2 clubs, i'm 1st to act and I bet out for $1. Villain2 reraises all in pretty quickly and the original raiser folds. I put him on KJ and his all in was to scare off anyone on a draw, well i had just doubled up and I felt like gambling again so i called. I make my nut flush on the turn when a 3c hits. This pot wasn't as big as the other two but was still a very reasonable $14.15.

In hands 2 and 3, villain2 actually pushed all in with a pair and a flush draw both times. He must have felt pretty sick after being all in, making a flush and still losing, not to mention both times against the same guy. he bought in for another $8 after that 3rd hand, i should have stayed longer because he was probably on the verge of tilting :D .

Those 3 hands boosted my BR by over $30, 5 days ago it was around $200 and now its pushing $350. If i can keep finding guys like those to play against I'll reach my target of $1000 sooner rather than later.

Wow! I want people like you playing against me..#2 hand you are calling with a gut shot straight? then calling 3:1 on 5:1 to win on the turn?? You won $24.00 but long term that is going to go down the tubes by making such calls..Then the 3rd hand you called a 2:1 pot bet on a 3.5:1 odds??

Then have the nerve to say "If I keep finding guys like those to play against?"... You keep playing like this you are going to be one of those guys and you'll be the one down of -1000.

Ok, I should have made it clear that I don't normally play that way, I'm usually the tightest player at the table. I've been running pretty good for the past few days and my confidence is up but after reading this post of yours I went back and looked at the HH's. You're spot on, I played those hands like the guys I want to be up against. My biggest weakness is that when my confidence is high and I feel like I can't lose, the gambler in me comes out to play. I end up making calls against the odds and chasing cards, what usually happens in that situation is I miss and lose a big pot. That snaps me out of it and I go back to my normal solid game. Today I was hitting everything wether I deserved to or not.

I take back the comment about "finding guys like those to play against". I have no problems doubling my buy in at a ring game, but usually its by grinding it out. Today I got very lucky and in two hands I won pots that were more than double my buy in, thats rare for me and I got caught up in the moment. I was so chuffed that I won a few big pots that I never stopped to look at why that was. Had I stopped for a second to find out what I did differently to my normal game I never would have posted those hands on here.

I've stood in the shoes of a donk and I know how easy it can be for a solid player to confuse luck with good play. My confidence was up because I had been playing really solid for a few days and making my own luck. In one hand today I made a bad call and was fortunate to win the pot, rather than recognising it as luck I patted myself on the back. A few hands later I made the exact same play and was again fortunate to win the pot. Going on tilt is something players have to watch out for and so is this, they both make you chase hands and make bad plays. If you don't watch out they'll cost you money.

Thanks for posting Twizzy, I respect your opinion and I definately deserve some abuse for those plays. I'm not the best poker player around but I play a simple and solid game, I don't deserve to be labelled a bad player after one day of donkish play.

I must apologize though for the "venom" in that post. Just like you, I make a donk play every now and then as well. Sometimes though which is said "odds" do have to get tossed aside and the cards have to be played. So again I do apologize for the way it came out(biggest problem with my posting always has been and always will be).

I could have critisized the OP here and said if you are dealing with a maniac having 10,J is really not a way to deal with him especially when you fully missed the flop. The fit or fold situation would apply here on the flop and calling with hopes of hitting runner runner is not the way to deal with him especially on a marginal hand that missed the flop. When in fact villian could have hit the flop with any 2 cards. 5 out of 7 cards are now shown and the OP has nothing, wrong play at this particular moment in time. OP got lucky

Its no problem, it was a slap in the face that I needed. I've spent most of the night buzzing around my house chuffed with my day of "good" poker. I've actually never taken the time to go over my winning sessions, I usually just look at my losing sessions and try to find out where I made mistakes. The thing about poker is that in the short term you can make bad mistakes and still win. I see now that the trick is to identify those lucky mistakes as just that, a mistake and not to see it as something else. It's too easy to develop the attitude of "I won and thats all that matters", that is an even bigger mistake than any you could make in an individual hand as it prevents you from improving your game.

The right time and fish

Congrats on a great hand. I also like to play later at night when some players may have been partaking in a few more drinks or otherwise. I found one in a 100/max buy in N/L room. I watch a table to see how others bet before joining. I noticed one player always raised preflop and raised a lot forcing others to fold. I waited for the right hands and doubled up off him twice with the second pot being 172.00 Some folks like to "buy" pots and you have to play your instincts and and best hand to catch a big fish fishing. Later...

Kinda lucky there having nothing off the flop and then landing 3 of a kind...

But it goes to show you, doesn't really matter what you have.....it matters what they THINK you have (and to an extent, what they have). I love the guys that go in with nothing, showing their cards instead of mucking them and showing the rest of the table that they have nothing. Just helps you play them better from that point on :)

That's the best part about poker: Let the idiots have their fun and take many little pots. Then, when you're ready, pull the same crap he does, and once he gets annoyed on you taking up his territory, own him.
