But for some reason it seems the guys still dont think i know what im doing. its kinda frustrating. its even harder for me to bluff at a pot, bc no one takes me serious. hmmm any suggestions on how to crack their view?:p

Yea - I can see where you would have problems. In some games when guys get away with bluffing with crap it is a good play but when a girl does the same they think she is playing dumb lol. Luckily we usually have 50% women at our home games so it is not so bad.

Maybe BBB and Juicee can give you some tips here - they both play very well with the guys - playing similiar strategies and winning a lot. And they both get respect at the table

Don't try to crack it. Adjust your game accordingly. Wait for big hands and slowly take all their chips. I play at the local casino from time to time, and there is always at least one guy there who does not take me seriously--you know the type--and can even be patronizing. I just smile my sweetest smile, and play my game. Then I take their chips.

I busted a guy twice because he didn't respect my raises. It was very satisfying. :D Good luck in your home games! They'll start to take you seriously the more you win.

If they're calling you down because they don't think you know what you're doing, so you can't bluff effectively, then bluff less often or not at all. If they're going to keep calling you, value-bet, value-bet, value-bet when you have big hands and make them pay big. I'm sure you can use it to your advantage that they don't see you as a big threat. Good luck.

EDIT: Doh, I was 2 minutes late... JQ kind of already said what I said :D

I was just going to say, if this bothers you at all, then you are letting them tilt you. DON'T LET THEM!!! Stay confident in your game, and don't take it personally. Just think of how great it will be when you get them and they're watching from the sidelines...:D

Basically the same as jQ said:
Tighten your hand selections and don't thorw money into the pot unless you have a hand. Use this info to your advantage and take all their chips.

Last home game I was at there was a girl who would flip over her cards and say "I have a pair of 7s" and we'd have to correct her letting her know she actually had a flush and won the pot against one guy's straight and the other's set. I'm not sure if it was an act or not as I had never met her before, but it wasn't long before she was betting out big amounts where we would fold decent hands and she turned out to be bluffing on most. One way or another she had a HUGE stack in front of her.

haha gord962, my friend did that before. Was so funny to see the look on peoples faces when they're losing vs someone who they think doesn't have a clue about poker :p

take advantage of you being the only woman there. practice your game as much as you can online or in person and then play the dumb girly roll to the hilt. some guys won't want to see you leave the table . most men tend to think with something other then their minds when a pretty girl is at the table. ;)

as above(many posts), but I would also add that next time you play a home game, try to bluff early on in a couple of cheap hands, and get caught. These guys will then think that you havent changed your game, ie you still bluff all the time. After the second time you get caught, tighten up your PF hand selection, and start hammering them when you hit the flop, they are gonna think you are still running bluffs.

Okay, someone has to say it...cleavage. Yes, follow all of the advice above for nailing these knuckleheads, but add cleavage to the mix in the games and have one more weapon of mass distraction in your arsenal. You're the only woman at the game, this will work in your benefit.

OK, I'm pretty sure a Straight beats a Flush. Or...er...um...is is the other way around. Oh well, it's not important. Anyway, the first 2 cards are your hole cards, don't let anyone see them. Then there's a series of community cards called the board. The first 3 are called "The Flop", the next is "The Turn" and the last is called "The River".

(I love teaching girls:rolleyes: )

I was going to say that if you didn`t, JD. :)

The more feminine you look, the more likely these dumb guys are to think you can`t possibly know anything about a "man`s game".

 I hate to say it, but it is soooo true! Now, there's no way in hell I'm going to play the "bimbo" card, simply as a matter of pride. But--I am really friendly, and chit-chat, and of course I always dress-up a bit when going out to the casino. Just from being nice, you'd be surprised the "allies" you make at the table. I've had guys who are acting after me slyly show me their nut flush (the cards, gentlemen, the CARDS!!! :p) when I'm trying to figure out if my TPTK will stand up to that raise from EP. Of course I'm folding like a laundress. Little things like that where it is definitely advantageous to be the only girl at the table.

This will work real good! But only early on. Your best strategy here is to tighten up after! Oh, and KD says to get caught early on. If you don't get caught and win the hand on a BLUFF, you MUST show your hand. And say something like "I see Bluffs like this on TV, and they always work" This will work even better than getting caught!
