Yes - I am 100% positive that you can not enter the US without a valid passport or Visa - depending on which is required from your country.

Saying - "But I have a poker tournament I need to play in" is not going to work - and neither is any important reason for needing to be here - like the serious illness of a family member.

I have passport for sure.that passport allow me to go numbers of countries but USA. I never apply the visa in embassy of USA because there is no reason to tell them or no one invite me to USA. it's easy to go there only if USA resident sent me invitation. social media friends don't trust me to send invitation I think, i didn't ask them tho.

I sympathize with your situation but the laws are pretty strict here.

Why not apply for a travel visa.
As I know, some ppl got a travel visa to travel in US more than 60 days for the purpose of got to play Magic the gathering world championship finals, representing their national team.

and as I know, never been rejected, believe similar case in wsop.

no in this case, you need to apply for travel and tour visa, not for purpose of visiting your relatives visa, even they are in the same type.

I believe you don't need an invitation for that kind of visa, just honest tell your travel purpose, not that hard to get it.

good luck

PS: see similar case above , as I know.

The Visa laws vary by country - I have assumed he has looked into getting a Visa and was told he couldn't. If he hasn't even tried yet not sure why he created the thread.

The problem is Mongolians go there and don't want to come back home, that's why hard to get visa from U.S embassy, this is like learnt from the others mistake. Secondly, I don't want to fail to get visa which is my first attempt. Sorry dakota for create this thread

I believe US Visa law is the same all world round.
official page

https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/visit/visitor.html

he needs to apply for B-2

Tourism and Visit (B-2):
  • tourism
  • vacation (holiday)
  • visit with friends or relatives
  • medical treatment
  • participation in social events hosted by fraternal, social, or service organizations
  • participation by amateurs in musical, sports, or similar events or contests, if not being paid for participating
  • enrollment in a short recreational course of study, not for credit toward a degree (for example, a two-day cooking class while on vacation)

believe the same rule but individual results from visa interview.

If you win a good package, isn't that enough justification to apply to the visa? even if it is your first time?

I say apply and don't miss the opportunity, what if you cash big :p

I would say yes, just have to check the amount of time you will have for the visa process :)

Hey! As with anything in life, if you don't try you will never know. Why not just apply for a visa? The worst thing that can happen is they say no! If you haven't won a ticket yet, write to the embassy and ask whether they would give you one. While everyone here has a view, only your embassy will tell you the real answer.
