Here are the results of my weeklong search for freeroll friendly sites, for US players. I signed up for several sites and here are my findings:
Bovada: several PTS freerolls available if you have poker points from previous play on the site. Other "true" freerolls, like today's 100k new player qualifier, are not open to the public. I was able to register, but when the tournament began, didnt have a seat. I called customer service and was told those tournaments are only available to players with cash in their accounts.
Cake: 5x per day qualifier for once/week $1000 freeroll. Seven places in each qualifier qualify for the invitation only $1000 freeroll on Saturdays. Other freerolls available from time to time. The prize pool for the Saturday invitational is pretty flat, with 36 places paying and first earning $120.
America's Cardroom- America's cardroom does have some freerolls, you either need TourneyBucks which you earn playing on the site, or a password for an affiliate's freeroll. For example, I signed up for an account on Pokerstop.com in order to be able to play their exclusive freeroll on ACR as well as on other sites.
Lock- No regular freerolls. These sites offer "new depositor" freerolls, but nothing for players with no money in their accounts
RPM Poker- $200 freerolls at 6am, 8pm, 12am (CST). No info yet on the prize structure, but I'll probably find out at 8 tonight.
Carbon Poker- $200 freerolls at 6am, 8pm, 12am (CST). No info yet on the prize structure, but I'll probably find out at 8 tonight. Apparently these tournaments are over the whole merge network. Carbon's splash page says "32000 in prizes for freerolls" so I'm not sure if that's just the sum of all the $200 tourneys or if there's something bigger coming up that's Carbon- exculsive.
Black Chip- Same as the other Merge sites. Did I mention that the $200 freerolls have 5000 players across the network, and you get 1000 chips in a turbo format.
Next stops- Minted and Betonline, I'll update as I learn.
Anyone with any suggestions where else I might sign up, feel free to comment. I have zero bankroll now (unemployed), but that's going to change and this research will also help me decide whether to play at good old bodog, or go somewhere else to try and get bonus/rakeback and get a software rig up and running. My pokertracker is version 2 and I doubt you get upgrades for free. I don't even know if they offer downloads of 2.0 or if it's just obsolete.
Cheers!
