So I was just playing around looking at some of the challenges and stuff with the Academy at FullTilt when I then looked into the store and realized something. There are a couple items in the store that there is no way that you could attain enough FTAcademy Points to get to. Now I really don't care about the Academy, but this is dumb.

If you add up all of the possible points you can win with the Academy, it adds up to something like 84,000 if you finish every challenge the maximum 10 times. In the store they have the Custom Avatar for 1,000,000 FTPA Points and $600 bonus or 100,000 Real FTPs for 100,000 FTPA Points. I guess those are really the only ones that are unattainable, but still. Some poor soul is going to be crushed when he finds out he can't get that custom avatar with those FTPAs.

My opinion on the academy is its free points for something I am doing anyway. Why not take challenges and get the free points. You can get $26 tokens for 5000 Academy credits or direct convert 5000 credits for 5000 FTP points.

Exactly.

I don't do the challenges for the points, I do them to try out different plays that I otherwise might not make. Gives me a chance to see if they are actually effective. The points are extra -- and I do love tokens.

Is that all? I've got ~40k academy points now and there seems like a ton of points I haven't gotten yet. I do however know they have more challenges yet to come out and not sure if this will just be an on going thing or not.

I figured you would have a bunch cardplayer, I have noticed your name in that picture at the top of the academy before. Now I see it's your avatar. First time I noticed it I just laughed cause I knew it was you.

I'm with bigjoker66. The FT Acadamy is just free points for something you are going to do anyway. I've got my eye on the $26 token. I'll cash out at that point.

I wasn't saying it's not worth it, I was just mentioning the items in the store that you are unable to get.

Full Tilt Academy

I have also joined the Academy. I have also checked out the points system and agree at this point you can not obtain all the prizes. However if they are going to add new challenges then maybe one day you can get there. Since I am playing I might as well be trying to gather the points in certain situations. I could stand to get the $ 26 token or the $100 cash.:)

They will continue to add stuff to earn points based on past experience. Whether you can ever get to $1 million? Not sure why you would want your own avatar. Kind of like drawing a big bullseye on your chest when you play IMO.

If I recall correctly, you can always redo challenges too so even if you've completed certain challenges, you can always redo those and get points. At least that's been my understanding.

I think the academy is pretty cool. The pre-flop challenge was super easy. If you do that 10 times thats already something like 4k points. Do a few other challenges and you're at 5k. Then you can just cash out and get 5k FTPs. 5k FTPs takes quite a while at micro stakes...

Ah then, I have no idea how they calculate these things... I didn't realize that there was a cap on how many times you complete these. Figured the 10 times you mentioned was just an estimate. I guess FT doesn't expect many people to go through these task that quickly? Or do hidden challenges open up like a video game after you complete all of them? lol

I'm taking the challenges to learn to play ABC poker. For the most part they are teaching how to play solid. Then the fun part begins....learning when to break the rules.

That's a great idea
Maybe this is a way for me to build my BR out of scratch.
The academy doesn't cost anything to join right?

Nope, but it won't give you any money for completing challenges either. And you need to play real money in order to complete challenges in the first place.

FTP is just one promo after the other. What are all the promo's for? If you have the best poker site, players will play there without all the promos. Anyway, the FTPA is a good way to learn some things with the Sit N Learns and get a freeroll entry but the challenges are just another way to get you to sit down at their rakealicious ring game tables.

I bought a 26$ token w/FTAP's when I had no roll and played a matrix SnG $24+2 and make 36 or 38$ or so... I actually still have enough for another token, but don't need it right now.
I think some people would be attracted more because of things like this..Why question the promos?..it's like "Do I wanna play at a site w/no ppl and no extra incentives?" OR "Do I wanna play at one of the bigger sites w/ lots of ppl and extra incentives?" AND some players probably end up spending more money trying to get the points or FTA credits or bonus chasing.

Yea, I don't know why you would even question promos. They are good things for a regular for a couple reasons. You get something extra in return for what you were already doing... ie. 2x Points, Bonus $, freerolls to FTOPS, etc. Also, they bring more fish to the tables being one of the biggest, therefore you're able to capitalize off of them trying to capitalize off of a promo. I do this all of the time with the academy.

Example: Go into a micro stakes game and watch all of the players whose normal preflop raise is 3xBB from all positions, but then all of the sudden they min raise from EP or raise 2.5BB from MP. You can almost always be sure they are trying to complete the Pre-Flop Play challenge and they have a premium hand. It is a huge tell because once you notice that someone is on that challenge, you can beat the crap out of them. You'll also know that they can't open call, so if they open raise to their regular amount, you can easily push them off because you know it isn't premium, but it was a hand they would have liked to see a cheap flop for. Try watching for this and capitalize!

I think that Full tilt will have to add more challenges sooner or later. Its not even possible to redeem some of the prizes, and thye have to know that. They probably already planned for adding more challenges, but for now there still OK since most people haven't even come close to earning all the possible credits.

I earned a little over 5000, mostly from the preflop challenge, where I did it ten times for a total of 4000 points. I redeemed 5000 credits for 5000 points and then turned the points into a good amount of cash by playing the 275ftp Sng where first place gets 12.

The academy is a great way to learn some of the basics and to also earn a nice bonus.

IIRC, some of the challenges accepted freerolls as MTT cash tournaments, so you could actually complete a few of the tasks that way. However, that was a really small set of tasks..
