Full Tilt Reduces Value of an FTP

Today for the first time I noticed that the value of an ftp was decreased by full tilt poker. FTPs used to be worth approximately .5 cents/ftp, so a seat in the daily dollar ($1 buy-in) cost 200 ftps. A set of shot glasses in the ftp store cost 4,000 FTPs earlier this week. Now, full tilt has reduced the value to about .45 cents/ftp (a 10% decrease). Is this due to more happy hour promotions (such as 3x ftps) and the academy store offering 5000 ftps for 5000 academy credits (which I take advantage of a lot), allow players to gain more ftps quicker? Today, a set of shot glasses is 5,000 ftps (which is the only item I saw to increase more than 10%), and a daily dollar ticket is 225 ftps, the 25,000 ftp jerseys are now 27,500 ftps, which is consistent with a 10% increase. Did anyone notice this sooner? What is your theory on why ftp would reduce the value of their ftps? Do you think it has to do with people making tons of ftps in rush poker and during rush poker happy hour?

They recently increased the ease in which someone can get FTPs recently. This may be a result of that

Yes that is my theory. They made it easier to get them but then decreased the value. Usually when I play I randomly play during a happy hour, so 2x ftps but decreased 10% in value, the player is still coming out ahead.

You used to earn 7 ftp for every 1 dollar paid in rake, you now earn 10 FTP.
So yes they raised the prices most likely because of that.

They have increased the rate you earn FTPs for the top tiers of Black card to. I think they earn FTPs at 2 or 3 times the normal rate...

It was part of a bigger adjustment of the Iron Man / Black Card system.

It is still kind of shitty and here's why:

When they introduced the new way MGR (and therefor rb) was being calculated one of the things they said was to help offset the loss was the extra FTPs (they didn't quite make up for it but they helped). Now just a few months later they're devaluing the same FTPs they claimed where added to offset the rb loss.

Are they going to change the hit on rakeback I get for using them, too? Probably not. I do think this has to deal with making it easier to obtain FT points, though.

How about when you also add in they changed from Dealt Method of calculating rake to the Weighted Contributed Method?

They did actually do this. Each point spent now hits your MGR for .004 rather than .005. Still a wash with the price increases.

Something that was 50K points before is probably 62500 points now, so same rb hit as before.

So it's easier to earn FTPs, but you have to spend slightly more to buy an item, and the MGR hit is the same?

So basically no change at all?

Right, other than the change in the way MGR is calculated.

Right, other than the change in the way MGR is calculated.

I contacted my rakeback provider and they told me that for each ftp you spend it still counts against your MGR at .005 not the new .0044 and the full tilt had not yet changed this.

From one of the major RB providers who posts on 2+2

The points value of store purchases have now changed (for non cash purchases) to $0.004 per point used or $0.00108 per point rakeback

In other words $4 per 1000 points (and $1.08 rakeback)

Best wishes

PS used to be $0.005 per point

Hi John,

Thank you for your email.

I contacted Full tilt to see whether any changes have been made and they have confirmed that FTPs are still deducted from rake at the same rate as before (-$0.005 per point).

I hope that helps? Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.

Kind regards
