Full Tilt Poker is billing their Flipout Tournaments as the "new way to play online tournament poker". Flipout Tournaments will cut out hours of pre-bubble play, and get players to the money quickly, after the first round.

Players are put all-in automatically in the first round, after which the bubble bursts and play resumes for the remaining players with a standard betting structure. All players who make it past the first-round of the Flipout Tournament are automatically in the money and guaranteed a pay-out. Flipout Tournaments are designed to get players to the money faster, without having to play hours on end just to get to the bubble.

Sarne Lightman, full tilt poker’s Head of Marketing says, “Full Tilt Poker is dedicated to the continual evolution of online poker to keep it fun, fresh and exciting; not just for or existing players, but also to help attract the generations coming up. Flipouts are a game changer – literally unlike any other online poker tournament. Perfect for the time-poor player who wants to jump straight to the post-bubble action with a stack and blind levels that give them plenty of play.”

To celebrate the launch of the Flipout Tournament format, Full Tilt is hosting a four day "Flipout Festival", with $25,000 in added cash and prizes. The festival will start Friday, March 21 and run through Monday, March 24. The Flipout Festival kicks off with a freeroll, and will include 108 tournaments played out over 12 events with a range of buy-ins.

At least it's only for the first round. Would be interesting to see how one plays out to the end.

As has been previously said, its tempting the gamblers not the poker players.

How long is that first round?

When does it start?

There are none of these games in the Play Money games.

Wow wonder where Full Tilt got this idea?...Probably through years of study on public freerolls, they just changed it from all-in fest until break 1 to all-in fest until the bubble. Personally I see this as more of bingo and less of poker. Good luck to anyone that does try these out though!

At first, I wasn't really sure what the strategy/upside was when Stars bought Full Tilt out.

Now I'm starting to get it: they get to maintain Stars as the legitimate, "proper" poker site, and use Full Tilt to expand into silly stuff like this, as well as table games and sports betting without harming either their main brand image, or their chances of getting licensed in the States when and if online poker gets legalised.

They have one freeroll and some $0.22 buyin 3x entries. I'll try my luck on those and see what happens.

I got lucky and passed the first round on 2 of my 4 Flipouts.

When down to 3 tables, the Black Card Pro stronghawk from Russia was sitting at my table. My luck ran out when I went allin with JJ and the Pro called with AQ. Busto! Cashed $0.31 for that one.

I cashed $0.48 on my other entry.

Side note: there was no breaks at all during the whole game. It is probably a bug.

Will try the next wave.

Looks like a poor attempt to get at good poker players bank roll. I can't speak for the rest of the game but the first round is like playing lottery, very similar astronomical odds to win.

It's like all those years we've spent learning to play better poker and now it's being reduce to a game that's based purely on luck, ridiculous.

I decided to try this just for the hell of it. I'm always in for something new.

Tried a double entry to a $0.55. 81 players register and 9 make it to the final table and in the money, little more than a couple of minutes. One note is that there are 2 deals AI at the initial tables. Maybe that was mentioned above and I missed it.

I was put out on both but watched the final table. One player made it to the money twice, so he got 9th place money and will get another cash for where ever he finishes. So there are now 8 players, and he had double the starting stack of the other 7. The guy who had double wins to the final table won the tourney, but was short stack for a while, so he won $14.25 for a $1.10 BI.

At the start, play was quite open and heavy, now play doesn't seem to be anything special, one way or the other.

Some thoughts on this format:

Yes, variance will be high, on the average you'll make the money 1 in 9 times regardless of your skill level. But I would wonder how many times one would get in the money in your average 80 player S'nG on any site.

Yes, it's a gamble to start, but so is any tourney at this buy-in level anywhere.

As noted above, play at the final table will be less than what you'd expect at any other tourney of this size, simply of the fact it's a coin toss to get in the money, no skill required.

All in all, I'll try a few more of the S'nG types, and might even try a few of the scheduled ones where entries are limited to 10,000. But at FullTilt, from what I've seen in the few days I've been on, a full tourney of that size won't be happening much.

Just finding out about these tournaments. Will check them out to see how the action actually happens, but I don't think I'll be playing these tournaments. They sound like a mix between bingo and poker.

Yes well, I rather dislike this idea, many many people all at once go all in is very difficult to win such a tournament, you need to have a 100% success))

This will give the donks a real chance to reach the FT. I definitely like this idea because I'm the type who isnt good playing long tourney, I tend to lose focus fast. Getting in the money always help me play better. But I can also see how some players won't like the coin flip level in this, most would rather like to earn their way in the money.

Wow. I don't know how I missed this post. I too will miss out on this since I live in the USA, but would have loved to try it 1 or 2 times. It is essentially the lotto with the chance of winning more IF you win the lotto. Neat gimmick. I doubt they stay popular for long, as why would anyone who is good at the game take his edge away. But a fun concept.
