Got a friend who lived in france and he got email saying French Players can no longer play. Funny thing is he just moved back to USA and he has to send paperwork to FT to allow him to play.

France passed a law that a poker site must be licenced in France in order for their citizens to play there. I guess Full Tilt doesn't want to pay for a French licence.

It's not just about a license. A licensed site in France also has to collect an additional rake off each pot, even if the site has a 'no flop, no drop' policy, the new French law will require a small % of blinds for their rake.

pokerstars is solving the issue by opening (iirc) pokerstars.fr ... but they will also be licensed. Will be interesting to see how many French players will log-in to an exclusively French player site.

That fvcken sucks for the French & the host site. Think about it, Full Tilt is already behind poker stars as it is. Now they lose a buncha players and furthermore, reduce their rake percentage. This will definitely burn a hole in the quarterly revenue.

I'm french and I must admit it really really sucks...

The point is that we pay for the room rake, and now we'll have to pay for the government rake...

Regarding FTP, they're waiting for their french licence, so it's clear that FTP will soon be available in France.

But the big problem is that if this is like PokerStars, now on the french release of PS, you can't play anymore with the rest of the world (ex: you can't play anymore the "Hubble's freerolls" and all other tournaments)

You can only play with french players on french tournaments, and in my point of view, this is a terrible news, as terrible as the new tax imposed by France.

It's clear that it sucks, and if anyone have some work around to avoid these problems, please let me know!!!

I still have hope we can make things change in France in order to be connected again with the rest of the world!!!
I have the feeling to be in Soviet Union, with poor choices and goods available, with all good stuff in occidental countries. :(

But maybe if we talk about other topics, like what kind of food do you eat, France will be a little more popular than a lot of other countries ;)

How awful for the French players.

And it makes me wonder what would happen if the US ever decides to license/regulate/tax online poker. I'm thinking it's be careful what you wish for time.

I agree being a french full tilt player sucks right now but, they SAY they will soon have a dedicated FTP french site just like Poker stars does, however i am sure they will take a lot more rake. Good luck solving the problem, as soon as one poker site jumps ship, every other one bails behind them.

Go figure

The Italians where annexed a year or two ago I believe.

Well another kick in the balls for poker players I have heard that the rake from Stars France is pretty horrid which doesnt give the French alot of prospects right now. Now I dont think this will happen in England but you never know do you? Isnt their talk of other countries already doing the same? If this keeps happening GG poker.

Man. If that happened in the U.S. (and I had a bankroll...lol) I think I would have to seriously consider playing live only...

I would think countries could treat poker sites the same way they treat a casino? Just tax them directly or would it be too big a hassle to try and figure out how much money is actually coming out of each country?

Also, does the Bill in France demand a rake or is Fulltilt applying a rake to compensate for tax imposed by France?

I have to admit that I was happy to see a french at my table - seemed as if they always had enough money to throw at me. :D

Seriously - it sucks big time.

I don't know whether the french players are getting taxed on their winnings aswell - I believe they are ....

The French have internet?

Just kidding! This is just a joke, no nationality should have to do without online poker :)

Do you play on FT McC? There are lots of players from Italy in every tourney I play in.
