hi all
i play on full tilt (most of the time)
but have just d/l pokerstars to have a look.
at first glance, the software looks a bit naff,
but maybe its because i've got familiar with full tilt.
i am in the UK.
what are your thoughts,
are the two sites basically the same ?
is it worth my while to get familiar with pokerstars ?
are there any major differences between the two ?
i am a slightly winning player at micro and freerolls
(from zero to $188 at the moment).
dont know whether to open a pokerstars account
or stick with full tilt.
any advice
thanks
:)

I'd stay at FT until you get out of the micros.
I like PS much better than FT, but the fact is at the micro stakes the rake is killer at PS. Just from switching sites (from PS to FT) my ROI went up by 7% (still got a small sample size at FT, but I think it's large enough to see a small trend).
Once you get out of the micros, it's up to preference I think. I believe that PS has a much better rewards program, but FT has rakeback so... make a decision when you get there.

Hope this was helpful.

I would say PokerStars is the next best thing if Fulltilt is your favorite. I love PS but I have a FT account too. These are your best two sites. I think PS has a better selections at Micro stakes and the tables load faster and anytime of day or night. Yes it is worth it to familiarize yourself with PS, I think the promotions are better than FT and I like the software better. But hey they are both great sites and I think any serious poker player should have an account on both!

What do you play?

I play only STT and MTT so can only comment on those. But the SnGs are structured differently. I play both sites and am now comfortable with both structures, so that would be one point. I can be more specific if you play these and are interested. Mainly PS has antes and FT not, and the blind levels are structured quite different.

FT has smaller MTTs in the micro and low buy ins. PS seems to be a larger field. Like the on demand 2-8$ at FT get around 150-200 entrants, and fields that small at PS are very rare.

But I like both sites. Software is quite different as you have seen, + and - (IMO) to both.

I play almost exclusively on Stars. Since I am in the U.S. and Stars seems to have less issues with deposit/withdrawal than FT in the U.S. that's big for me. Since O P is in the UK than I would say use Tilt for the rakeback if you can get it.

If you signed up to Tilt through an affiliate than you are tied to them and no rakeback is possible. If you signed up at the Full Tilt site directly, than just go to www.rakebackpros.com and create an account there. Let them know that you signed up through Full Tilt directly (if that's the case). I applied for it just in case I want to play on Tilt eventually and it took about a day to get approved.

One thing I will say about Stars is that their customer service is great. I had a bit of an issue at one point with my account and we resolved it to my satisfaction over the course of 3 emails in about 4/6 hours. From what I have heard about Full Tilt, a similar situation might have taken months.

Good Luck

I've tried many sites, but I always come back to PS and FT. Better tournies, good software, easy to use and very seldom do I have software lockups. Also, customer service at both sites is outstanding.

Is this a level? Customer service at Fulltilt is probably one of the worst. It is my favourite site (even though I haven't play on there much at all for the past 6mos), but support there sucks in a big way!

I've mentally gone back and forth with these 2 sites. I originally started playing online with PS and then downloaded FT and playing on that for a long time without even looking at PS, but now I'm back to PS mostly because my bankroll is bigger ($235 compared to $40) and bigger stakes is just so much more fun!

I like ft they are putting out ridiculious amount of money w/ thier double guar. and ftops. I play At real games few times a week. But gotta say this, been playing past12 years. I have never in my life seen so many bs hands win pots. I mean think about, you get AA preflop other guy gets 4 q off suite you raise $100 this idiot calls you 2,7,k on flop he has absoulutly nothing you raise $300 he calls hits a 4 on turn you go $1200 all in he calls hits a q or a 4. you loose. I know it is possible to happen. But not even close to the consistancy it does on FT site. That sht happenes 70% of the time on their. Somewhere in there the math just doesnt add up. Happens about 100 times more than it does sitting at a table w/real people.

I know I'm probably wasting my breath but here goes:

So many things wrong here. First, in your example you shove with only top pair on the turn. That's bad play in and of itself.

Now as for the idea that the site is rigged or not mathematically correct. You are wrong. We all tend to have selective memory. We remember the times our Aces get cracked and other bad beats because it is painful and unusual. All of the times that your big cards hold up tend to not be memorable because, in our mind that is what should happen. There are many players who have databases of millions of hands. None of them have ever reported anything other than a normal statistical distribution of hands and how they hold up. Trust me, if Aces really got cracked 70% the skewed results would show up and people would scream bloody murder. No one has ever proven a discrepancy with statistics. Just the opposite in fact.

Don't forget that you get many more hands per hour online than live. If you multi table the effect is increased. Since you see more hands faster, you see more bad beats due to the volume of hands. Please note you see a higher volume of bad beats not a higher percentage of bad beats. Since it is impossible to prove a negative, no one can absolutely prove it isn't rigged but if you are going to accuse the sites of rigging than you bear the responsibility of proving your claim with facts and statistical analysis. I would be willing to wager a large sum that you can't do this because the proof does not exist.

I started out on Full Tilt and then downloaded PokerStars to see how it compared. I didn't like Stars all that much to start with, probably because I was just so used to the look and layout of FT. The more I played on Stars though, the more I preferred it. I like the frequent player point system there. I don't know if it's still the case on FT but I used to hate it when I'd be in a pot with someone who was all in because they were sitting out and I'd end up losing that pot, particularly if antes were involved. With Stars, if someone is all in while sitting out, their hand is automatically folded if you're also in the pot. Could never understand how how you could lose a pot on FT to someone who wasn't even there! As far as customer service goes, I think both sites are pretty good - never had any problems.

You think poker stars has better freerolls than Full Tilt? Wow, thats surprising, I think I can make a living just off the freerolls on full tilt! lol

What about the level of players on PS? I do get tired of the donks on any level on Full Tilt. Now I know there will be bad players anywhere you go, its just that full tilt seems to have the locks on them!

When I was new to online poker, and trying to decide where to deposit, I downloaded a few different poker rooms to get a feel for each of them. As silly as it sounds, FTP's fun, cartoonish graphics (and clean interface) was a big attraction point for me. I also stumbled upon the notion of "rakeback", something that I surmised was a good thing to have, and which apparently FTP offered and PS didn't, so that along with its (in my opinion) better looking software, swayed me towards building my first poker bankroll on FTP.

I'm more informed now, and take less frivolous factors into account in considering my preferred poker site. I still play mainly on FTP because as a low stakes, low/medium-volume player, I get more out of their rewards program; their standard 27% rakeback plus Iron Man surpasses PS's VIP offerings on the first few levels. On the very highest levels of volume, however, no rewards program comes close to touching PS's Super Nova Elite. If I could attain that volume of play, I wouldn't think a second to move to PS.

I haven't dealt much with either site's support myself, but it's practically a cliché that PS's customer service is the best in the industry, while FTP's is the worst ever (unless you're a Black Card member, apparently).

I love both big poker sites, PokerStars and full tilt poker. But PokerStars is my favourite room, maybe because i played more there and got used to it. No other room is good as the two big one :))

Why do you not want bad players on your games? We make our money from bad players, don't we?

Personally, I like PS way better than FT. I just feel like their interface, combined with the fact that it is way easier to cash-out, is a huge advantage compared to FT. I believe the majority of players on CC would agree with me as well. I would switch to PS as soon as possible!
